Description:
Peabody Historical Society & Museum (PHS&M) seeks a part-time Curator to oversee the preservation exhibition and management of its collections.  Curatorial responsibilities include proper care and exhibition of objects; establishing and implementing conservation priorities; coordinating volunteers and installing temporary exhibits; planning and implementing outreach programs to increase public awareness of the collections of PHS&M, preparing budgets and written reports.  This position is responsible for proper registration of the collections, including cataloguing, accession/deaccessioning, loan agreements, maintenance of the collections data base and from time to time contributing to the Society’s newsletter. Also soliciting and obtaining funds for curatorial projects from government foundations and private sources, managing partnerships with local organizations related to exhibits and programming, regularly updating the Society’s website with current program information and news.  Also,promoting exhibits and other curatorial projects by designing postcards and other marketing materials, writing and distribution of press releases.  This is a part-time position, with some elements of flexibility.

Qualifications:

REQUIREMENTS:  Masters Degree in Museum Studies or related field.  The ideal candidate will possess skills and experience in oral and written communications; he or she will be able to work independently, as well as with a small staff and volunteer base.  Candidates should be proficient with all programs in MS Office, PastPerfect software, and have a basic knowledge of photo editing software, as well as social media (Facebook).  Work takes place in historic houses utilized as museums as well as offices.
