Le Laboratoire Cambridge (www.lelabcambridge.com) is a culture lab in Kendall Square highlighting contemporary experimental works of artists and designers at frontiers of science. Since opening in October of 2014, the Lab has offered exhibitions, seminars, events, breakthrough products, and culinary experiences to the greater Boston area. Modeled on Le Laboratoire Paris, which was located in the heart of Paris, France from 2007-2015, Le Laboratoire Cambridge is the new home of the Cloud ArtScience Foundation, the cultural innovation organization that in recent years has placed original works of art and design in museum collections and stores around the world, run the international education program the ArtScience Prize, and inspired Café ArtScience, the fine dining restaurant located at Le Laboratoire Cambridge.
Each year, Le Laboratoire Cambridge facilitates cultural experiments between leading artists, designers and scientists that lead to contemporary art exhibitions that are displayed at the Lab. Often, exhibitions translate beyond their time in the gallery and develop into museum works, humanitarian interventions, or commercial products. Collaborations and exhibitions at Le Laboratoire Paris have included such renowned artists and designers as William Kentridge, Mark Dion, Philippe Starck, Ryoji Ikeda and Mathieu Lehanneur, among many others.
As the first person to interact with our gallery guests and patrons, the Gallery Assistant and Interpreter plays an important role in delivering high quality, interactive gallery experience in line with Le Laboratoire Cambridge’s values. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and performing a variety of duties, this position also contributes to gallery operations including managing admissions, assisting guests, and providing accurate information and context about exhibitions. Additionally, this person will work with Lab staff to facilitate many aspects of the exhibitions, including the coordination of the artist and design teams and installation of the exhibition. Qualified candidates must possess exceptional customer service, communication, and technical skills.

- Provide overall gallery oversight, ensuring the smooth functioning of the gallery and providing a positive visitor experience for guests.
- Administers and assists in the execution of all aspects of exhibitions including troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring the efficient performance of all equipment.
- Provides direct logistic, administrative, and curatorial support to the Exhibition and Facilities Manager, and aide in preparations for openings, exhibitions and assorted gallery events.
- Works alongside the Director of External Relations in providing general support for special events, tours, private functions, and public programs, including event set-up and basic A/V support.
- Assists in maintaining Le Laboratoire’s inventory of brochures and literature, monitoring the gallery space and reporting on any incidents or issues.
- Tracks ongoing evaluation of attendance, gallery programs, reports visitor questions and suggestions, and makes recommendations for program development.
- Complies with Le Laboratoire’s policies and procedures pertaining to the operation of the gallery.
Qualifications:
- Oversee the functioning of building facilities and operations, including coordinating repairs and maintenance, IT trouble-shooting, and various related administrative tasks.
- Degree in Art History, Education, Museum Studies, or a related field and minimum one year of related curatorial/museum experience required.
- Deep knowledge of contemporary visual art.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment while remaining visible and approachable to guests.
- A flexible schedule, including ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- Excellent customer service experience skills.
- Flexible, adaptable to change, and willing to acquire new skills in an evolving work environment.
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stoop and bend for extended periods of time, routinely walk to and from various parts of the building carrying equipment and other essentials of the job site.

- This is a part-time position. (This position requires occasional early mornings, late nights and weekends availability)
