Description
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art seeks an experienced and dynamic Director of Development to lead fundraising operations for one of the most esteemed art museums on the West Coast. The Museum boasts an extensive collection of the arts of Asia, Europe, and the Americas spanning 5,000 years of human history, an internationally-recognized exhibitions program, and outstanding educational and outreach activities that have established it as a critical resource and cultural forum for the entire Santa Barbara community and surrounding counties.
The qualified candidate will have demonstrated leadership and fundraising proficiency at non-profit organizations, preferably (but not necessarily) art museums, for at least five years. He/she should have experience in procuring philanthropic funds from all sources: individuals, foundations, corporations, and government. The candidate should have successfully obtained major gifts, and have overseen effective membership and/or planned giving programs. The Museum is particularly seeking those candidates who have overseen or worked on major capital and endowment campaigns. The Director of Development will be responsible, with the Capital Campaign Director, in coordinating the Museum’s ongoing renovation campaign. The candidate must have excellent managerial, interpersonal, and communication skills as well as persuasive writing skills and knowledge of financial reporting and fund accounting; he/she will direct a staff of nine, including an Executive Assistant, the Capital Campaign Director/Major Gifts Officer, Senior Development Officer, Grants Manager, Events Manager, Annual Fund Manager, Membership Coordinator, Manager of Special Programs (Travel Programs), and the Capital Campaign Administrative Coordinator. The Director of Development reports to the Museum’s Director and CEO.
