POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Project Manager oversees the management and coordination of all aspects of the development, organization, and implementation of temporary in-house exhibits, permanent gallery rotations, and traveling exhibitions. This includes responsibility for drafting schedules, developing and tracking budgets, writing agendas, leading meetings, facilitating communication between centers and cross-functional teams at all levels, and contributing to the overall functioning of the Museum’s galleries and other project management needs. This position may at times be called upon to assist with other institutional project management needs. The Senior Project Manager directs and supervises Project Managers and the Editor and is relied upon primarily to be an advocate for the successful completion of all exhibition and gallery projects museum-wide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Project Management
• Ensure adherence to institutional goals and priorities as the senior manager of assigned project teams
• Develop and oversee project budgets and work schedules in consultation with relevant personnel; monitor progress of project expenditures and report against targets; track and continually revise schedules and timelines in accordance with the approved development processes established by OMCA
• Review, create, manage, and disseminate legal contracts with independent contractors related to projects assigned
• Lead and oversee Center and project-related business planning, budgets, and resource management
• Plan, lead, and facilitate core and cross-functional team meetings; foster productive relationships and mutual understanding between project team members and stakeholders

Exhibition Management
• Oversee and/or directly manage all aspects of the development, organization, and implementation of temporary in-house exhibitions, permanent gallery rotations, and traveling exhibitions
• Collaborate with Curators, Experience Developers, and Designers as an equal and pivotal member of exhibition core teams
• Manage editing, translation, and graphic design processes on assigned projects

Administration
• Supervise, manage, and mentor direct reports and project team members to ensure consistency of processes across all projects, deliver exceptional results, and ensure appropriate collaboration with staff
• Work in close contact with senior management teams to actively determine and implement strategic priorities for the Center
• Continually strive to improve project management processes across the institution
• When called upon, represent OMCA and projects in meetings with outside stakeholders

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A combination of experience and education that demonstrates possession of the necessary knowledge and abilities for this position is required as noted:
• High School diploma, GED or equivalent required
• B.A. in relevant field preferred
• 6–8 years of related experience required

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong understanding of management skills, principles of supervision, financial management procedures, and practices of museum administration
• Ability to perform all functions of the Project Manager and direct, coordinate, supervise, and mentor Project Managers
• Strong knowledge of museum policy and procedures and ability to communicate to and instruct staff at all levels about said policies and procedures
• Some content knowledge in the areas of California art, history, or natural sciences
• Some knowledge of the roles played by educators, experience developers, programmers, curators, and marketers
• Ability to represent Museum interests with community partners, Board members, and other stakeholders

• Strong communication and writing skills; ability to draft business plans to determine feasibility of undertaking new projects
• English, fluent in both spoken and written form
• MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Smartsheet, Google Apps, Filemaker
• Valid CA Driver License

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to the following:
• Noise, such as groups of people working in enclosed areas
• Typical office environment
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
