POSITION PURPOSE:
WDFM is committed to providing high quality programs and resources for schools, teachers, and
families and to working in partnership with others to support arts education in the Bay Area and
beyond. This position works as part of education team to design and develop age and grade appropriate
curriculum related experiences that connect students to the power of imagination through animation
arts, science, and technology. Serves as lead in coordinating school visits, tracking teacher and school
group communications and oversees education interns.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Develop and oversee WDFM School Experience program to meet California Content Curriculum
Standards
 Develop and coordinate teacher programs (including teacher training institutes, workshops, and
other events for teachers)
 Develop digital and non-digital resources for educators and schools, including curriculum content
 Coordinates programs for schools (currently grades 1 through 12), including acting as liaison for
collaborations and partnerships.
 Oversees Education Interns and School Experience programs
 Assists in the development of grade appropriate and curriculum related gallery and classroom
experiences, including tour scripts and lesson plans with ties to exhibition content and themes
 In consultation with Collections and Exhibition staff: research and write supporting lesson
materials, including targeted teacher and in-gallery guides, and web content for education pages
and blogs
 Assist in evaluation of school experiences content and delivery quality, adherence to predetermined curriculum standards
 Assist in capture of teacher and participant feedback
 Lead gallery tours for school groups
 Assist in evaluation of school experiences content and delivery quality, adherence to predetermined curriculum standards
Summer Camp
 Assist in design and lesson plan development for summer camps
 Teach summer camp modules as assigned
 Work with sales team on summer camp registrations, communication with parentsFURTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Maintain knowledge of current art education policies, standards, theories and practice in public
schools and museum contexts
 Maintain records of school and teacher programs, and to process program enrollments
 Answer inquiries or see that they are answered by other appropriate staff
 Meet and greet school and teacher groups
 Assist with the functioning of the Learning Center as a public, educational space
 Perform other appropriate duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
 Undergraduate degree in art history, art education, museum studies or closely related subject,
or equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrable interest in modern
and contemporary art.
 Graduate degree preferred.
Work Experience:
 Minimum of two years experience in art education, including working with teachers and
students/youth.
 Experience working collaboratively with colleagues.
 Experience in event programming and coordination preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
 Knowledge and understanding of California’s K-12 education system
 Knowledge of animation and illustration, museum educational programming, and the Bay Area
artistic community
 Outstanding interpersonal and public speaking skills and the ability to work enthusiastically and
effectively with visitors, Museum staff, program participants and external vendors
 Patience and flexibility while working in a dynamic public environment
 Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to organize work, set priorities, meet
critical deadlines, follow-up on assignments and work effectively on several projects
concurrently with a minimum of supervision
 Basic understanding of PC multimedia programs, video display systems, and their application to
public settings
 Availability to work evenings and weekends
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands: May require a lot of work on feet, moving of light furniture, and bending.
Special Environmental Factors: Must be able to work in a busy, active environment and may be
required to handle large groups of people.
