The Director, Donor Relations works closely with the Deputy Director, Advancement to design a comprehensive and integrated fundraising program for individual contributed income sources for the Museum’s annual giving programs and special capital projects. The incumbent implements tactics to support an overall strategy and build a major donor base, managing a portfolio of 100-150 donors and prospects, with an emphasis on five- to seven-figure gifts and an annual fundraising goal of $5M.
The Director, Donor Relations regularly liaises with the curatorial and programming staff for donor cultivation and solicitation, and collaborates on the design and implementation of all donor events. Among the highest priorities, s/he leads individual solicitations for the Museum’s two fundraising events, the Gala in the Garden and K.A.M.P. (Kids Art Museum Project). The incumbent also arranges and participates in domestic and international donor travel and oversees upper-level donor groups. Additionally, the Director of Donor Relations is expected to attend Museum donor functions and to have frequent written and oral communication and interaction with all levels of donors, prospects, and volunteers. The Director, Donor Relations also works directly with the Museum Director on special projects as they arise; manages the Coordinator, Donor Relations; and co-supervises the Manager, Membership.
Job Requirements
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in art history, arts administration, humanities, communications, or related field; minimum of five years’ experience in development and fundraising in a museum, cultural institution, or related organization; familiarity with art history and trends in cultural programming within public arts institutions; familiarity with the multi-culturally diverse communities of Los Angeles; experience planning and implementing special events; demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement individual identification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies; excellent oral communication skills to solicit potential donors, and collect and relate information with accuracy and diplomacy.
