SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Museum of Science is actively searching for an experienced and enthusiastic, upbeat front-line Visitor Services Specialist who thrives in a highly trafficked public environment. Cash handling skills required. Exemplary customer service and communication skills a must! Ability to work independently and efficiently as needed. Flexibility and multitasking skills highly desirable. This is a uniformed position that requires working during scheduled holiday periods and school vacation weeks due to increased attendance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 20,000 – 50,000 guests per week depending on the season.
  • Up to 15,000 guests per day during school vacation week / holiday periods or special exhibitions.
  • 1,000 – 3,000 school children per day during the school year.
  • Up to 500 transactions per cashier, per day.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is full-time, 31.5 hours a week, with the following schedule:

Monday 8:30am-3:00pm /

Tuesday 8:45am-5:15pm /

Friday 4:45pm-10:00pm /

Saturday 4:45pm-9:45pm /

Sunday 9:30am-5:15pm

Manager, Visitor Services

 

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.

Sales Associate [deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum]

DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is seeking a part time sales associate to assist the retail store manager with day to day customer service and sales in the Store. The Sales Associate position at the deCordova Store provides customer focused service to the visitors and patrons of the Sculpture Park and Museum, generates sales, merchandises products and supports the store management team.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about contemporary art and dedicated to providing knowledgeable and friendly service.

Required Availability:

28 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain product knowledge of merchandise sold by the Store to act as an expert for the customer.
  • Conduct direct sales to customers, ensuring each customer is greeted and acknowledged when entering The Store.
  • Operate the Point of Sales (POS) cash register system for sales transactions, returns and inventory control.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to store visitors to include product information, location and pricing.
  • Assist in receiving and processing merchandise, pricing and monitoring floor stock, and replenishing stock when necessary.
  • Assist in floor moves, merchandising, and display.
  • Maintain the store appearance on a daily basis.
  • Open and/or close The Store when needed.
  • Provide security in The Store to prevent loss from theft or damage.

 

 

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, and to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store. Entails lifting and ability to perform all functions as set forth above.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year experience in retail product sales environment.
  • Prior use of retail computer system, a plus.
  • Personable, clear and effective communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Desire and ability to learn new information and skills, cheerful and have a positive attitude.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Security, the Associate Director for Security Operations is responsible for the daily management of security operations and the supervision of the entire frontline security staff, along with two other security supervisors. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the security department works well with other Museum departments and communicates the goals of the Museum security department clearly and effectively to all Museum employees and the public. This person also serves as Acting Director of Security in the absence of the Security Director.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that tests of all aspects of the security layers and systems for the Museum are being conducted
  • Develop security policies, procedures, standards and directives
  • Maintain familiarity with basic emergency procedures and maintenance of all security systems
  • Communicate needed security equipment repairs to the Security Technology Manager
  • Supervise personnel, conduct performance appraisals, oversee training, assign work, disseminate pertinent information, resolve problems
  • Oversee scheduling and assignment of security personnel to ensure adequate security coverage
  • Oversee security payroll and performance issues
  • Maintain close liaison with all other Museum departments
  • Along with two other security supervisors, supervise personnel, conduct performance appraisals, oversee training of new hires and ongoing training of current security staff, assign work, disseminate pertinent information to security staff in an efficient manner, resolve problems
  • Create and improve upon security policies, procedures, standards and directives
  • Serve as first responder for all safety and security-related incidents
  • Respond to inquiries and investigate security-related issues
  • Conduct background investigations
  • Responsible for physical security systems
  • Assist in providing emergency assistance related to maintenance and first aid
  • Coordinate and manage security operations for special visits and events
  • Assist in the management of vehicle access and parking
  • Follow proper procurement procedures and assist in preparing and managing annual budget for security department
  • Work evenings and weekends based on operational necessity
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the security field, preferably in a museum setting
  • Prior staff supervision and training experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across many departments

Museum Interpreter [Fruitlands Museum]

Fruitlands Museum, a museum of art, nature, and history set in picturesque Harvard, MA, seeks a friendly and outgoing individual to serve as a part-time seasonal Museum Interpreter. Essential duties and responsibilities include: interacting with visitors, both individually and in groups; conveying accurate and relevant information about each of the Museum collections; securing the safety of guests and collections; monitoring the Museum buildings for any problems or safety concerns; and assisting visitors with limited mobility to easily access the Museum buildings and grounds through the use of a motorized vehicle supplied and maintained by the Museum.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be 21 years old or older, be customer service focused, possess courteous and safe driving skills, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable working collaboratively as a member of a team, and have a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the collections (history, art, literature, anthropology, environmental studies or education). Program Manager [The Art Connection]

The Program Manager is responsible for effective management of the art donation and placement program, the expansion program, and the development and achievement of planning goals and objectives. The person in this role serves a spokesperson for The Art Connection, assisting with communications, marketing, and event planning, as well as board and committee development. The Program Manager is supervised by and reports to the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have the willingness and ability to fulfill administrative tasks as well as dynamic professional responsibilities.  A high level of cultural competency, an understanding of social service issues, and experience working with visual artists are essential. Applicants should have experience working in a small office or within a small team, strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office/Access, be comfortable making web and social media updates, and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite. Being outgoing and personable is a must. This is a role for a detail oriented, flexible, independent worker with excellent time management skills. Willingness to travel in Greater Boston and valid driver’s license are required.

Responsibilities: Work directly with social service agencies to facilitate their selection of permanent collections of art, scheduling visits, and processing paperwork associated with all placements. Work directly with local artists contributing to our portfolio. Update website, social media sites, and blog. Create quarterly E-news and contribute to biannual print newsletter. Collaborate with staff on all event planning, mailings, volunteer management, and PR. Prepare monthly progress reports, agenda, and minutes and facilitate Program and Expansion Committee meetings attended by board members and other stakeholders. Participate in the strategic planning and spearhead the evaluation of placement and expansion programs. Travel locally, and sometimes regionally, to (co)represent The Art Connection at events and in our expansion recruitment efforts. Provide as-needed consulting to expansion sites and plan the biannual Expansion Summit.
