The Armenian Museum seeks a full-time Collections Manager with a background in museum studies and collections who has demonstrated proficiency in the core functional areas of Collections Management, conservation practices, administrative capabilities and planning experience expected in the profession. The successful candidate will demonstrate professional experience with a diverse range of historical artifact and textile collections, as well as library materials. The ideal candidate will also have a strong appreciation for Armenian history and culture. The Collections Manager, reporting to the Museum Director, will work closely with the Curator and Administrative Offices in matters concerning the Museum’s archival collection, exhibits and displays. This is not a research position. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE A Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, Anthropology, Conservation, Art, History or other related field, along with two years of related work experience is a minimum requirement. Position Summary
Gallery Officers are responsible for the protection of the collection and the safety of all staff and visitors.

Primary Responsibilities
• Protect the museum collection from theft and damage
• Ensure the safety of all visitors and staff members
• Patrol the galleries and respond to object alarms
• Control and monitor access and egress points of the building
• Monitor visitor activity to ensure adherence to museum policies and procedures
• Respond to visitor/ staff requests and questions in a respectful, courteous and professional manner
• Perform escort duties into restricted areas of the museum as directed

Secondary Responsibilities
• Respond (briefly) to visitors’ questions about the collection to the best of your ability or direct them to information sources (i.e., Gallery Guides, “Ask Me” volunteers)
• Be customer service oriented when enforcing museum policies and dealing with the public
• Respond to emergency situations such as medical, theft, fire, vandalism and other incidents in a timely manner
• Inform the Security Managers and the Director of Security of all incidents verbally and/or via written report
• Work all regularly assigned shifts as well as any special events when needed
• Present a professional image in accordance with established uniform and appearance standards
• Utilize radio equipment in a professional manner to report business matters to management and colleagues
• Attend all training meetings and perform other duties as assigned

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Butterfly Garden Interpreter is primarily concerned with providing a high quality visitor experience through maintaining and practicing high professional standards for visitor services, informal science interpretation and care of the Museum’s living collection. She/he greets visitors and engages them in subjects of plant and butterfly biology through interpretations and answering questions. The Butterfly Garden Interpreter monitors visitor activity to ensure plants and butterflies are not touched or removed from the Garden. He/She also ensures all USDA containment procedures are followed. The Butterfly Garden Interpreter assists in the training of volunteers and may on occasion supervise the operation of the garden in the absence of the Curators.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in greeting and monitoring approximately 10,000 guests per month.
  • Assists in providing informal and formal educational presentations for up to 800 guests per day.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a 3000 sg. ft. free flight butterfly exhibit.
  • Assists in the care of the plant and animal collection, including 350 butterflies.
  • Must be available to work on holidays, school vacations and weekends as the Butterfly Garden is a 365 days a year operation.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is part-time, 12 hours/week, Friday and Saturday, from 10:00am – 5:00pm.

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.

  • Knowledge of plants, insects and other biology and natural history topics.

Description:
The Harvard Art Museums is accepting applications for the position of Communications Intern. The intern will support marketing and public relations efforts within the division of Communications. Tasks shall include reading, clipping, and compiling of all Art Museums-related press; organizing and archiving press files; assisting in the distribution of promotional materials; assisting with social media efforts; and maintaining the communications database. This is an unpaid internship and the applicant must be receiving academic credit to be considered. The internship will run through August 2016.

Please note that the location for this particular position is in an off-site building in Somerville, near the Sullivan Square T. MBTA buses 86, 91 and CT2 run nearby. Hourly shuttle service is provided to and from the off-site location to the Harvard Art Museums, with the shuttle stop located on the corner of Prescott Street & Broadway in Cambridge. There is a parking lot (free) at the Somerville location if you choose to drive there.

Qualifications:
The internship is open to qualified students who are able to begin work in May or earlier. The hours are very flexible within the M-F work week. Applicants who are majoring in arts administration or marketing/communications with a strong interest in the arts are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be independent, organized and efficient, and possess computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point. Familiarity with Evernote and Filemaker a plus, but not required.
