Vice President for Development [New England Aquarium]

The New England Aquarium – a regional and international leader in marine conservation, research and education – seeks a dynamic and experienced fundraising professional to serve as its Vice President for Development (VPD). Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the VPD will join the Aquarium’s senior leadership team as it lookstoward a period of substantial growth, including the incorporation of a new strategic plan into its fundraising priorities, as well as leading the Aquarium through its next comprehensive campaign.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience, outstanding communications and fundraising ability, and the presence and inspiration to lead the Aquarium to a new level of visibility and impact. S/he should have the capacity and experience to oversee all aspects of a fundraising program that generates $10-12 million annually for operating support and nets $40 – $60 million from the second phase of the Mission Blue Campaign.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The VPD will serve as a lead strategist and a key member of the Aquarium’s senior leadership team. S/he will be instrumental in charting the future direction for the Aquariumand will design and implement a comprehensive development plan to support theAquarium’s continued growth. To this end, the VPD will oversee a professional staff of 20across all aspects of development, including major gifts, individual membership, corporate sponsorship and membership, foundation and government relations, donorresearch, and events.

As a key member of the Aquarium’s senior leadership team, partner with administration and volunteer leadership to define institutional priorities and needs.

  • Partner with the President and CEO to set goals and key outcomes for the institution’sdevelopment program.
  • Work with senior leadership to develop an overarching vision for development at the Aquarium; articulate that vision to key constituencies in order to encourage and develop a culture of philanthropy.
  • Collaborate closely with the Vice President for Marketing and Communications to shape the Aquarium’s case for support and develop effective external communications to a variety of audiences, particularly Trustees and major prospects.

Serve as the chief development officer working in close conjunction with the President and CEO, Board, and Development Committee. Develop relationships with current andprospective donors and facilitate relationships between donors and the executive,governance, and program leadership.

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a personal portfolio of the Aquarium’s highest-levelprincipal donors.
  • Establish strategies to expand the pool of major gift prospects; emphasize the identification and cultivation of the next generation of donors; launch systematic initiatives to identify and target other individuals capable of making major financial contributions.
  • Review the stewardship policy and ensure that a culture of personal and genuine appreciation, recognition, and regard for Aquarium supporters permeates all aspects ofits development effort.
  • Recognize and develop opportunities for ongoing communication and relationshipbuilding with donors that transcend the context of solicitation and acknowledgement. Oversee a first-rate system of gift acknowledgements and donor records to facilitateeffective stewardship.

Attract, develop, lead, and mentor a high-quality fundraising staff that is prepared to meetthe on-going challenges of broadening and diversifying philanthropic revenue. 

  •     Build on the existing strength of the development staff; augment existing staff capabilities as appropriate to meet expanding organizational needs; recruit and train astaff well-versed in the Aquarium’s mission and goals.
  • Promote excellence through well-defined and measurable goals; inspire and motivatestaff through fostering a work environment that rewards new ideas and risk-taking,builds confidence, and encourages team-based efforts. Create a culture that fosters accountability, cross collaboration and builds an effective and collegial team.Celebrate current achievements and set clear expectations for future success.
  •     Serve as an advocate for staff, representing their concerns and needs.

Qualifications:

 ·  Passion for the Aquarium’s educational, research and conservation mission and its roleas a leading cultural institution in the city of Boston.

·   At least ten years of development experience in building the infrastructure of a development program. Proven ability to formulate and execute a successful fundraising plan that simultaneously addresses near-term needs for annual operating support andcapital resources, as well as longer-term needs to grow endowment and broaden the baseof support.

·    A depth of knowledge in all key areas of development including major and planned giving, annual giving and membership, corporate, foundation and government relations.Demonstrated experience in executing the strategic planning and management of a large-scale capital campaign.

·   Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership gifts at the seven- and eight-figure level.

·    Strong management skills, both strategic and operational, and a demonstrated abilityto build, manage, mentor, and motivate an effective and collegial team, providing strongsupport and an opportunity for growth and development.

·  A demonstrated capacity to work with senior leadership to understand and translate theirneeds and aspirations to individual donors.

·   Integrity, perspective, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.

·  A desire to be in a dynamic organization with the ability to prioritize, move quickly andmaintain strong follow-through.

·    Superior written and oral skills; the ability to understand and translate information for all audiences; clarity, crispness and elegance in writing and speaking.

Summer Courses Administrative Assistant [Museum of Science, Boston]

Assist in a variety of operational and administrative tasks to run an efficient summer program. May include: managing all student information, creating weekly class lists, providing face to face customer service to parents before and during program weeks, working with team of 16-18 high school interns as they facilitate out of classroom time for youth participants, ensuring proper supervision during transition times, assisting in supervision of field trips off site as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operational support for six weeks of summer programming for 500 students entering grades 1-8.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is temporary, full-time, 40 hours a week, from May 15th, 2015 to August 21st, 2015.

Special Assistant to the Museum Director for Development [Rose Art Museum]

The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University is seeking a Special Assistant to the Museum Director for Development and will report to the Rose Art Museum Director. This individual has responsibility for managing and coordinating all planning and follow up actions related to or affecting donors or prospects assigned to the museum Director, or for whom the Director has ongoing responsibilities.  The Special Assistant also works with the Rose Board of Advisors and members of the museum staff to determine and realize financial goals.  The candidate will have a proven track record of partnering with management teams and boards to strategically assist in implementing successful, comprehensive fundraising efforts.  Close coordination with the Institutional Advancement Division regarding funding strategy, stewardship and donor relations, prospect management, gift processing, and other areas to mine possible relationships and identify prospects. Strong writing skills and a collaborative style required.

 
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs fundraising, develops ideas, and reviews prospects. Includes preparation, cultivation and solicitation, and follow up with prospects, donors, fellowships and foundation grants.  Keeps lists, reviews and manages follow up as appropriate regarding contacts, reports and stewardship coordination.  Communicates/meets regularly with VP for Development and other IA staff colleagues to coordinate efforts.  Supports the Director on management of the Rose Board of Advisors.
  • Coordinates the planning, implementation, and tracking of strategy for all museum Director prospects and donors. This includes assisting the museum Director in evaluating and setting prospect priorities; ensuring that all prospects are properly coded for tracking purposes; regularly reviewing prospect status, and recommending next actions and moves.
  • Works with the Rose Board of Advisors on their gifts as well as maintaining their own small portfolio of donors.
  • Manages all follow-up activities subsequent to museum Director prospect meetings or conversations, including coordinating with other development staff and reaching out to other university personnel as directed by the museum Director.  Proactively identifies resources that will be useful in advancing prospect strategies. Prepares gift agreements as appropriate, as well as all materials needed in support of Director’s meetings and/or conversations with prospects and donors.
  • Works with the Director and Collections Manager on gifts of works of art, including acknowledgment letters and keeping gifts on schedule.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5-8 years total work-related experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Strong writing skills and a collaborative style required.

The Manager of Adult Education will insure that events are planned and executed in a manner that reflects the highest standards. In addition to successful program planning and execution, duties will also include writing and managing grants of varying sizes from public and private institutions and supporting operating and capital fundraising efforts. Develops and teaches classes in area of specialty as needed. Other duties as assigned. Recruits, supervises and regularly evaluates all contracted course instructors. Working with the Director of Audience Engagement and Program Committee, this position will develop a long-range vision and comprehensive education plan. 
Qualifications:
Qualifications: ability to work in a fast-based environment, expertise in planning, designing, marketing and evaluating innovative education programs; experience building successful collaborations with other organizations and institutions; significant experience in management and supervision of program and related staff and volunteers; commitment to excellence; extensive grant writing and project and budget management experience; MA or MS degree in education, horticulture, interpretation, or 5+ years in a senior position in a museum education department or related field required. Must be able to create and adhere to project budgets and deadlines. The position is full time/exempt and requires regular evening and weekend work.

DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is seeking a part time sales associate to assist the retail store manager with day to day customer service and sales in the Store. The Sales Associate position at the deCordova Store provides customer focused service to the visitors and patrons of the Sculpture Park and Museum, generates sales, merchandises products and supports the store management team.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about contemporary art and dedicated to providing knowledgeable and friendly service.

Required Availability:

28 hours per week

Sundays, 10:00 – 5:30; Mondays, 10:00 – 5:30; Fridays, 10:00 – 5:30; Saturdays, 10:00 – 5:30

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain product knowledge of merchandise sold by the Store to act as an expert for the customer.
  • Conduct direct sales to customers, ensuring each customer is greeted and acknowledged when entering The Store.
  • Operate the Point of Sales (POS) cash register system for sales transactions, returns and inventory control.
  • Provide a high level of customer service to store visitors to include product information, location and pricing.
  • Assist in receiving and processing merchandise, pricing and monitoring floor stock, and replenishing stock when necessary.
  • Assist in floor moves, merchandising, and display.
  • Maintain the store appearance on a daily basis.
  • Open and/or close The Store when needed.
  • Provide security in The Store to prevent loss from theft or damage.

 

 

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, and to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store. Entails lifting and ability to perform all functions as set forth above.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year experience in retail product sales environment.
  • Prior use of retail computer system, a plus.
  • Personable, clear and effective communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Desire and ability to learn new information and skills, cheerful and have a positive attitude.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
