Position Summary:

The Bullitt Reservation Property Steward (Steward) is based out of the Bullitt Reservation. The Property Steward has assigned duties involving the management, preservation and protection of the Bullitt Reservation, Bear Swamp, Chesterfield Gorge, and Chapel Brook Reservations. The Property Steward reports to the West Management Unit Superintendent.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the rules and regulations of the property are observed and followed by visitors.
  • Help WMU Superintendent recruit, supervise, and cultivate a small, core group of regular volunteers. Coordinate, assist with publicity for and lead volunteer events as needed.
  • Represent and promote The Trustees in alignment with organizational messaging guidelines.
  • Properly wear a Trustees’ provided uniform at all times.
  • Conduct oneself safely at all times and in accordance with The Trustees safety manual.
  • There will be other duties assigned by the Superintendent as needed, occasionally at other WMU and possibly Western Region Properties.
  • The Steward is the first-tier emergency contact when onsite and is a contact when offsite.

Bullitt Reservation (~35%)

Maintain the Bullitt buildings and grounds at a baseline level of stewardship; duties include:

  • Assist in the maintenance of gardens, trees and shrubs, grasslands and woodlands. This will include, but is not limited to: mowing, weeding, hedge trimming, pruning, brush and invasive plant cutting and removal, brush sawing, chipping, and trail clearing.
  • Assist in the maintenance, improvement and construction of trails, parking areas, fences and other infrastructure.
  • Welcome visitors, and recruit and manage stewardship volunteers.
  • Assist with building maintenance projects that include interior and exterior painting, basic carpentry, electrical, masonry and plumbing.
  • Perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment and maintain the on-site tool and equipment storage areas by keeping organized and clean.
  • May be required to work on weekends and/or evenings to run volunteer workdays, to ensure the protection of the property and/or the safety of the visiting public.
  • Clean up trash and litter.

Chapel Brook Reservation (~50%)

The Steward will be a frequent on-site presence at Chapel Brook. Duties will include:

  • Actively communicating with all of the many different people and groups that use the property to avoid conflicts of use. This includes finalization and implementation of a Green Groups program, selling memberships, soliciting volunteers and general visitor services.
  • Assist in the maintenance, improvement and construction of trails, parking areas, fences and other infrastructure. Specifically to include visitor circulation improvements, including rock stairs, blazing, gravel landing construction and other elements.

Chesterfield Gorge (10%)

Perform monthly routine maintenance:

  • Update kiosk information and clean out.
  • Clean litter, fix damage, vandalism and clean outhouse.
  • Mow/string trim/prune along parking area, signs, posts, and fences and clear vegetation around building perimeter.

Bear Swap (5%)

  • Assist with larger projects such as the clearing of views at the overlooks, removal of hazard trees and invasive control.

Either perform or manage a volunteer who performs:

  • Approximately once per month, walk the entire trail system while taking detailed notes and photographs of issues that need to be addressed, and report them to the Superintendent.
  • Remove any trash to offsite and sticks/branches that are on the trail to ~20’ off the trail.
  • Restock the kiosk with current and clean literature and brochures.
Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years experience in landscaping, natural resource, vegetation, and/or park maintenance, carpentry, and/or light construction.
  • Able to handle the unexpected: to be flexible and able to think on your feet. Experience with and proficiency using landscaping tools and equipment (e.g., loppers, shovel, rake, brush saw, chain saw, etc.) and carpentry tools and equipment (e.g. hammer, drill, table saw, etc.).
  • Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job, which includes a level of physical fitness adequate to enable you to safely lift 60 lbs. to waist height, work outdoors for up to 8 hours on your feet in a variety of weather conditions (e.g. hot and humid, cold and rainy), and perform all the job duties and use the types of equipment listed above.
  • Posses, or be willing and able to acquire, basic first aid and CPR certification before start of work.
  • Highly motivated, capable of working independently and cooperatively with other staff.
  • Basic computer literacy including: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ability to type at reasonable speed, and ability to easily navigate the Windows operating system.
  • A valid driver’s license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees’ driving policy.
  • Ability to drive a large pick up truck (extended cab and bed); no special class driver’s license is required.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience working with a diverse group of people, in an outdoor environment.
  • Excellent “people skills” to lead, inspire, motivate, and work cooperatively and harmoniously with fellow employees, volunteers, committees, members, and the public.
  • Proven ability to manage and complete multiple projects on-time, in the field and office.
  • Advanced carpentry, construction, masonry, and/or landscape maintenance skills.
  • A valid pesticide applicator license; Chainsaw training and/or certification; and hoisting license.

Other Requirements:

  • An offer for employment for this position is contingent on a satisfactory CORI record check (criminal background check).
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle to transport self, equipment and supplies between properties.

Schedule and Compensation:

This is a part-time, seasonal position expected to work approximately 30 hours a week from April 4th – September 2nd. The rate of pay is approximately $14 per hour, depending on experience. Work starts in April and ends in October. This is a 35-40/hr week job. Great team. Beautiful location.

SUMMARY

As we launch a new strategic plan to expand our global reach and impact, we are seeking an entrepreneurial and experienced fundraising professional to join us as the Foundations Officer and create new opportunities to grow foundation and government support for NEAq’s mission.

The Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of foundation donors and prospects, with a focus on building multi-year, six-figure partnerships. The Officer will work closely with program leadership and the Director of Institutional Giving to create a robust foundation and government prospect pipeline, with a focus on foundations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fundraising/Portfolio Management

· Create new opportunities to engage foundation prospects and grow existing partnerships.

· Cultivate and solicit a portfolio of foundation donors, assuming primary responsibility for stewardship and retention.

· Create opportunities for Aquarium staff and leadership to engage with foundations.

· Secure invitations for multi-year proposals that advance strategic priorities and develop proposals for grants.

· Write and edit persuasive requests for funding and other materials designed expressly for foundation audiences, as well as reports, supporting documents, and other updates to donors.

· Partner with finance staff and program leadership to ensure that budgets align with proposal strategy and funder guidelines.

· Plan and implement site visits and other cultivation activities designed for foundation prospects.

· As needed to support Institutional Giving team goals and organizational priorities, work with VPs and Principal Investigators to develop proposals for funding from federal and state agencies. Assess opportunities for fit, provide input to make proposals more competitive, and ensure that all supporting documents meet guidelines.

· Meet annual targets for donor and prospect visits, solicitations, and revenue.

· Participate in exhibit and program planning to help align organizational strategies and funding opportunities

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Training and Experience

· Demonstrated success in securing funding from foundations on the local and national levels and developing proactive strategies to strengthen foundation relationships.

· At least 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in a complex organization.

· Proven experience in the full spectrum of foundation fundraising including proposal and budget development, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship.

· Superior oral and written communication skills, including development of sophisticated proposals and presentations.

· Bachelor’s Degree required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Strong strategic and analytic skills, demonstrated problem-solving ability.

· Strong sense of ethical conduct, and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgement in all matters, including those relating to sensitive donor relations issues.

Grants Specialist [New England Aquarium, Boston, MA]

Grants Specialist

Description:
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Grants Specialist is responsible for securing government and foundation funding for the Aquarium’s programs. The Grant Specialist’s primary responsibility is to guide prospect research, strategy, and proposal process to secure government grants. S/he will provide support to principal investigators (PIs) and Aquarium staff members in the proposal development and submission process, survey and forecast government funding opportunities to ensure a robust pipeline, and serve as a partner to PIs in devising approaches for competitive proposals to federal and state agencies. In addition, the Grant Specialist will write foundation proposals and reports in support of Institutional Giving team deadlines and goals and may manage a small portfolio of foundation donors.

SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday; 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35 hours/week). Additional hours may be required as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fundraising/Proposal Development

1. Lead prospect research to identify and track federal and other government funding opportunities; produce and distribute at least quarterly forecasts of federal opportunities and work with PIs to ensure a robust, multi-year funding pipeline.

2. Work with PIs and organizational leadership to evaluate government funding opportunities, determine what projects may be a match, and formulate proposal strategies.

3. Collaborate with PIs and Office of Sponsored Programs to set, monitor and meet timelines for government proposal development. Manage time-sensitive projects, with responsibility for on-time and complete submission of funding proposal packages; convene discussions with internal stakeholders to define government proposal requirements and strategies.

4. Edit government proposal content provided by PIs and draft sections of proposals, abstracts, cover sheets and other supporting documents as required. This may include securing and preparing documents related to sub-grantees.

5. Coordinate with PIs and Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure that government proposal budgets and budget justifications meet funder requirements and are competitive for funding.

6. As needed to support Institutional Giving team goals, cultivate, solicit and steward a small portfolio of foundation donors. Coordinate with program and organizational leadership to maintain active communication with donors, meet donor reporting requirements, and secure proposal invitations.

7. As needed to support Institutional Giving team goals, write high-quality proposals, inquiry letters, and reports to foundation donors and prospects in coordination with Director of Institutional Giving, PIs, and other staff. Ensure that budgets and financial reports meet donor and NEAq requirements.

8. Cultivate strong working relationships with PIs, Office of Sponsored Programs and other staff that result in successful proposals. Implement and support internal protocols and policies to ensure effective communication and appropriate proposal and budget review.

9. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of priority areas within the Aquarium for governmental and foundation support. Maintain knowledge of initiatives, current programs, and other funding opportunities from government sources. Maintain knowledge of governmental and foundation funding and other philanthropic trends.

Program Management

1. Coordinate with other staff on gift accounting, gift acknowledgement, accurate record keeping, and timely financial reporting.

2. Participate in program planning to help align organizational strategies and funding opportunities.

3. Participate in Institutional Giving team and Development Division planning to inform and track progress against multi-year fundraising strategies.

4. Maintain active prospect management system in Raiser’s Edge.

5. Perform other related duties, as assigned, to support Institutional Giving and Development Division goals.

Qualifications:
Minimum Training and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and five years of grant writing experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Exceptional writing skills with demonstrated experience developing, writing and editing proposals and supporting documents for federal and state agencies.

· Proven success securing funding from government agencies. Foundation experience desirable.

· Research and prospecting skills, including knowledge of grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, and other resources for identifying new funding opportunities.

· Strong sense of ethical conduct, and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgement in all matters, including those relating to sensitive donor relations issues.

· Ability to set priorities and perform multiple complex tasks in a deadline driven environment, with attention to quality, accuracy and detail; outstanding organizational skills.

· Ability to think creatively and strategically; problem-solving skills

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to guide processes that involve multiple internal stakeholders.

· Familiarity with budgets and ability to create spreadsheets. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Raiser’s Edge.

Description:
The Cambridge Art Association (CAA) is seeking an Gallery Assistant intern to work with our Assistant Director, and assist with the organization and implementation of our robust exhibition schedule. The Cambridge Art Association presents 20+ gallery exhibitions, and an additional 20 exhibits in non-traditional galleries each year. These include juried, non-juried, curatorial, and pop-up exhibits. In addition to our exhibits, the CAA hosts regular professional development and networking events for both our 500+ Artist Members and the general public.

The Gallery Assistant will work directly with the Assistant Director in requesting materials and securing contracts from exhibiting artists; creating labels and additional information for exhibits; and creating exhibition catalogs. The Summer Gallery Assistant will also serve as the main point of contact for our summer exhibits, Flora/Fauna.

This internship is an excellent opportunity for an undergrad or graduate student interested in gaining hands on experience in a non-profit gallery environment.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have background in the visual arts or art history, and should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program; strong communications skills – both written and verbal; and an interest in exhibition coordination and development. The candidate should be an enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys working with the general public. The candidate must also be comfortable working independently, and able to lift and move heavy objects. Some art installation and transport experience is desired; however, we are willing to train the right candidate.

The candidate must have daytime and evening availability. (10-20 hours a week, available for school credit). We ask for a miniumim 3-month commitment – with 6 months preferred.
