The Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation at Massachusetts General Hospital explores the hospital’s more than 200 years of history and the groundbreaking research happening here today. For more about the museum, visitwww.massgeneral.org/museum. Volunteer docents greet visitors, lead tours, and demonstrate pieces of technology and artifacts. Docents also have the opportunity to give tours of the hospital’s historic Ether Dome. While some of our docents are medical professionals or history buffs, no special background in history, medicine, or science is required! Docents typically have one standing two- or three-hour shift per week; must have some flexibility to cover other shifts. Must be available a minimum of six months. Guest Curator–Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Program [American Civil War Museum, Richmond, VA]

Description

In partnership with the Andrew Mellon Foundation, The American Civil War Museum, a non-profit located in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a full-time guest Curator to support a new interdisciplinary Fellowship initiative that will bridge original public humanities research with exhibition and presentation. The best public humanities projects are designed with the expectations of an audience in mind. They seek to meet or exceed expectations, complicate visitors’ preconceived ideas, and inspire them to think more deeply about history as well as social issues and difficult choices in their own lives. The Guest Curator will work in partnership with the brightest emerging scholars in Civil War history and museum education to craft innovative visitor-focused exhibitions which have the potential to transform the views of individual visitors and school groups as well as the way history museums across the country engage the public. This opportunity is a two year grant funded position with competitive benefits offered.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

•Demonstrated knowledge of museum curatorial practices.

•Excellent knowledge of 19th century history and Civil War material culture.

•Familiarity with exhibition design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance with the ability to interact with contractors in performing these tasks.

•Superior written and oral communication skills.

•Constructive leadership skill, especially when working with students and volunteers.

•Ability to cultivate relationships with constituents and partners on the Museum’s behalf.

•Ability to serve an active role in fulfilling the Museum’s educational mission.

Requirements

Required education and experience:

•Master’s degree in history, museum studies, historic preservation or related field.

•Ten years of experience guiding exhibition planning and development.

•Experience serving as project lead/supervisor for an exhibition or other public humanities project.

Director of Museum and Art Center [City of Roswell, NM]

Description

Twice named an All-American City by the National Civic League and located in southeastern New Mexico, Roswell is a charming community with a population of just under 50,000, and a center for irrigated farming, dairying, ranching, manufacturing distribution, and petroleum production.  At an elevation of 3,649 feet, Roswell has a remarkably stable climate and a landscape that is colorful as its history that is perfect for all types of outdoor activities.

Placing it in the top-tier of the nation’s museums, the Roswell Museum and Art Center (RMAC) is one of only 1,021 museums out of 35,000 nationwide to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums for its excellence in operations and programs.

The Museum houses 8,000 objects that are significant examples of historic, modern, and contemporary art, including works by noted New Mexico modernists, and the regionalists Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth. Notable within the fine arts collection are extraordinary works by modernists Georgia O’Keeffe, Marsden Hartley, Stuart Davis, Victor Higgins, and Andrew Dasburg. The museum holdings also include two rare and comprehensive history collections,  The Robert H. Requirements

The Director is responsible for the planning, development, and management of the Museum’s collection and the management of a staff of 18, 8 studio instructors and an annual budget of $1 million. RMAC is fortunate to have superior support from volunteers and financial support from the City of Roswell and the RMAC Foundation.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in fine arts, art history, or related subject area and five years of administrative experience or a Bachelor’s degree in similar disciplines with ten years of administrative experience. Considerable appreciation, knowledge, and experience in the history, art, and artifacts of the American Southwest are desirable.

Management Assistant [Gettysburg Foundation, Gettysburg, PA]

Description
  • Schedules the CDO’s calendar (internal and external) including preparation of detailed itineraries, makes various travel arrangements, etc.
  • Is proactive in understanding and anticipating CDO’s needs and preferences including meetings, filing, correspondence, contacts, equipment, and so forth.
  • Can make independent decisions regarding calls, meetings and requests for the CDO’s time and can direct inquiries to other staff members as appropriate.
  • Will screen and prioritize all calls, visits and requests to meet with the CDO.
  • Prepares correspondence for CDO’s signature.
  • Serves as a liaison with the key fundraising volunteers including members of the board of directors and their assistants.
  • Assists CDO in preparations for fundraising and development related meetings. Preparing all logistics for all such meetings as directed by the CDO. Meetings may take place at various locations throughout the country.
  • Records the minutes of fundraising and development related meetings.
  • Works with the Donor Engagement Coordinator to create special itineraries for VIP visitors, donors, board members and their guests, including confirming all logistics.
  • Interfaces with the President’s Office, Management Team members and other staff as directed by the CDO.
  • Support and serve as back up for fundraising events managed by the Donor Engagement Coordinator and for data and report work performed by the Development Operations Specialist.

THE JOB:

We are on a quest to find a dynamic, passionate individual to be a part of our expanding Development Department as the Director of Individual Philanthropy.  This position will give you the opportunity to use your initiative to develop creative strategies to achieve the department’s goals. This position actively supports our mission and goals by:

  • Developing and managing our comprehensive individual giving program, including identifying, researching, qualifying, engaging, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual prospects and donors.
  • Developing and implementing major gift fundraising activities
  • Managing and growing the Fleet’s planned giving program
  • Maintaining a substantial portfolio of individual giving prospects and donors
  • Serving as a member of the Fleet’s senior management team
  • Working in partnership with and supporting volunteer leaders and the Board of Trustees to achieve the organizations financial goals.
Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED:

If you are the ideal candidate, you will be a driver of change and passionate about creating new and innovative ways to engage individual donors in the Fleet’s programs and initiatives.  In addition you will have:

  • 7 to 10 years of experience successfully managing multiple aspects of a comprehensive individual giving program, including special events, direct response, major gifts and planned giving
  • A proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure contributions
  • Experience with capital campaign or initiative based fundraising
  • Experience working with membership programs
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Raiser’s Edge
