Program Instructor, On-Call [EcoTarium]

The EcoTarium, a Museum of Science & Nature, seeks Program Instructors to deliver and facilitate interpretive programs for the general public and school groups. Program Instructors will work both independently and in teams to deliver hand-on interactive programs for the general public and groups of all ages, on subjects including astronomy, ecology, and other earth, physical and life science topics. Instructors will present engaging content in the planetarium, in a classroom, at the Nature Explore Outdoor Exhibit, or on the museum floor. Instructors independently manage smaller groups in the field, and help with group and teacher orientation. Applicants must have a background in education or science, and enjoy working with children. Strong classroom management skills and a costumer service orientated attitude are expected. Experience with inquiry approaches to teaching and public presentation experience is helpful.

Effective Date: December/January for training, calls beginning mid-December 2014 and continuing through June 2015 with a possibility of ongoing on-call shifts. Programs generally run weekday mornings and early afternoons. Weekend shifts and evening hours are occasionally available.                      

Status:  Temporary on call position with option to apply for summer employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and lead school and public programs on a variety of science topics, including but not limited to environmental science, animal behavior, astronomy, physical science, and more with indoor and outdoor components
  • Utilize hands-on participatory teaching methods
  • Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and meetings
  • Do independent background research on program topics
  • Handle animals for use in programs
  • Provide an exceptional visitor experience through formal and informal contact
  • Conduct programming outdoors in any type of weather
  • Uniform/dress code required

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Background in biology, physical science, education or related fields
  • Strong presentation skills and classroom management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in formal and/or informal teaching
  • Knowledge and experience with inquiry based, experiential learning desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
  • Comfort with performance and/or public speaking, a flair for public presentation
  • Interest in and/or experience working with diverse racial/socioeconomic populations
  • Multi-lingual skills a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and/or personal transportation needed
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be flexible and highly dependable
  • Be in good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position.  Ability to move program equipment/supplies up to 40 lbs, navigate the Tree Canopy Walkway and trails under any weather conditions.  Walking, standing, highly sensory and stimulating work environment due to constant interaction with guests.

Manager of Finance & HR [EcoTarium]

The EcoTarium seeks a dynamic, finance and human resources professional to serve as the Manager of Finance and Human Resources (HR).  She or he will be responsible for the overall management of financial and HR operations of the EcoTarium The position combines hands-on accounting tasks with budgeting, financial planning, analysis, reporting and forecasting and audits. In addition, the Manager of Finance & HR is the chief human resources officer of the museum and is responsible for personnel policies implementation and benefits administration. The successful candidate will manage financial and accounting processes and oversee Human Resources functions.

Essential Functions:

Budgets, Planning and Forecasting

  • Manage the planning, preparation and analysis of annual operating budget
  • Collaborate to develop and manage grant and sponsored program budgets and actual expenditures, including federally funded grants and multi-site budgets.
  • Provide direct support in all aspects of finance for senior management.

Financial Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of annual reports, including Form 990, Cultural Data Project (CDP) and the financial reports for the Annual Report.
  • Oversee design and implementation of financial management reports to support department expense and revenue management
  • Manage and oversee preparation and completion of financial reports on all grant and sponsored projects, used to report to funders and for internal program assessment.

Financial Compliance

  • Oversee internal control procedures.
  • Oversee monthly closing and preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements
  • Oversee payroll, AP, AR, cash flow management, sales and cash receipts auditing
  • Oversee annual audit process and other state and federal audits as required
  • Establish and implement procedures and protocols for ledger entry such that all contract/grant/gift revenue general ledger entries and program activity accounting and reporting are accurate.  Responsible for timely and accurate billing of contracts and grants.
  • Record monthly investment activity.  Track and maintain accounting records for endowment gifts.
  • Advise and assist senior management in complying with internal and external efforts to advance financial and data monitoring for the museum and the cultural sector, including participation in the Cultural Data Project

Financial Analysis

  • Identify, investigate, and analyze potential operational improvements.  Implement approved operational changes (policy, procedures, processes, etc.)
  • Prepare cost analyses and business forecasts for museum programs to develop program pricing
  • Proactively work with senior management to assess full costs and viability of projects to inform decision-making prior to grant or program submission to funders.
  • Analyze financial performance against key business metrics and document financial highlights that will inform decision-making.

Human Resources

  • Serves as the EcoTarium’s human resource officer overseeing and directing efforts including the management of organizational personnel policies, procedures and employee handbook, while ensuring consistent deployment of practices and procedures by managers.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Committee, identify HR best practices and priorities, establish key HR metrics and assess current state.  Lead development and implementation of workforce development and engagement programs.
  • Oversee employee benefits and Tax Deferred Annuity program.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Accounting or Finance  (MBA preferred)
  • Minimum of six years experience in similar non-profit environments
  • Experienced in general accounting management and financial planning and analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and QuickBooks
  • Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills; customer service oriented

Program Production Manager [Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum]

40 hours per week salaried position with a seasonally fluctuating schedule. Primary Schedule: Monday-Friday with 1 to 2 evenings per week (9am-5pm Mon-Wed, and Fri; Noon-9/10pm on Thurs; Flexible/TBD hours on Saturdays)

Summary of Position
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts, is looking for an experienced Production Manager to provide audio-visual technical support for a diverse line-up of public programs including lectures, classical, jazz and contemporary music concerts, video, multi-media presentations, and artist performances in the museum’s performance hall and special exhibition gallery. The Program Production Manager is part of a collaborative team, including programmers and curators, which plans, presents, and produces unique public programs for the general public. The new wing of the Gardner includes a 296 seat state-of-the-art performance hall designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano with acoustics designed by the renowned acoustic designer Yasuhisa Toyota. The performance hall is fully equipped with projection, sound, and lighting systems and houses a recording studio and mobile A/V inventory.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
• Advance planning and coordination with programming departments on audio and visual requirements for programs
• Advance communication and on-site work with artists to help realize productions within the performance hall
• Coordination with facilities staff on stage set-ups and hall seating configurations for the general public
• Management of all AV related aspects of programs including AV set-up, stage management, and coordination with music department sound engineer and videographers to ensure quality recordings.
• Operation and maintenance of equipment in performance hall, conference rooms, and mobile inventory
• Scheduling and management of additional contract AV staff and equipment rentals as needed (both ISGM freelance call list and outside A/V companies)
• Preparing and managing budget for routine maintenance of in-house technology and equipment and projection of annual contract staffing needs
• Quality front of house and monitor mixing for high level events in Performance Hall

Other
• Work with Curators and Preparator on exhibition installations that have an audio-visual component; advance planning with curator to determine AV budget for exhibitions
• Cross-train appointed museum staff on basic hall functions (including lights and playing a basic PowerPoint slide show) and use of AV for basic presentations
• Creatively solve problems with installed A/V infrastructure in the new building

Physical requirements
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and ability to push a minimum of 50 lbs
• Ability to lift, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods

The National Gallery of Art is currently looking to hire a full-time Education Assistant in the Education Division to support multi-generational public programs. The Education Assistant will work with a team of educators serving visitors ages four to adult through public programs that integrate art history and studio art.  The Education Assistant is responsible for assisting with the administration, planning, implementation, and documentation of programs.  Specifically, s/he will support programs by arranging logistics and administrative details of programs, managing budgets, preparing art materials, researching works in the collection, assisting with teaching, and documenting programs through photography and written notes.
A qualified candidate will have:
·         a masters degree in art history, art education, studio art, museum education, or a masters degree in a related field
·         a minimum of two years experience working in a museum or arts organization; experience working with family audiences a plus

The Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University seeks candidates for the position Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Founded in 1974, the Ulrich is a nationally recognized university art museum emphasizing modern and contemporary art and based in the largest metropolitan area in Kansas. The WSU outdoor sculpture collection was noted among the Top Ten in Pubic Art Review in 2006. Museum endowments generously support active collection acquisition.
