Arts Administration Intern for Fall 2016 [Kaleidoscope Center for the Arts, Rehoboth, MA]

Description:

Come join the team at Kaleidoscope Center for the Arts! We are a new venture with an exciting opportunity to grow the range and depth of creative arts programming for kids and adults in the Rehoboth, MA region.

Part-time internship positions available for Fall of 2016 ranging from 12-24 hours a week with flexible virtual component.

Interns will be working in marketing and promotion, which includes launching community marketing campaigns and developing strategic emailing and mailing lists and more. Internship also provides excellent experience in launching and maintaining social media campaigns.

Some hours may be devoted for arts administration duties. Interns may also gain hands-on experience working with faculty members in their visual, dance and music classes.

Qualifications:
Students enrolled in a college program that requires an internship; graduate students and recent college graduates looking for hands-on experience in a small arts organization that may propel them to future work in the field. Interest in visual arts, music or dance will be helpful but not required.

Writing and Editing Intern (Fall 2016) [Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge, MA]

Description:
The Communications Division of the Harvard Art Museums is accepting applications for a Writing and Editing Intern. Under the supervision of the Marketing and Communications Writer, the intern will learn about the role of a writer and editorial team at a university art museum. This is an unpaid internship and the applicant must be receiving academic credit to be considered. The internship will run through December 2016.

  • Tasks will include conducting background research; arranging, assisting with, and conducting interviews; and attending and note-taking at lectures and other museums events.
  • The intern will be included in regular editorial staff meetings, and will help develop or write a number of stories for the Harvard Art Museums’ online magazine Index.
  • Assignments may range from profiles of staff members to exhibition previews. Based on the intern’s interests and abilities, there may be opportunities for the intern to pitch original story ideas as well.
  • Please note that the location for this particular position is in an off-site building in Somerville, near the Sullivan Square T. MBTA buses 86, 91 and CT2 run nearby. Hourly shuttle service is provided to and from the off-site location to the Harvard Art Museums, with the shuttle stop located on the corner of Prescott Street & Broadway in Cambridge. There is a parking lot (free) at the Somerville location if you choose to drive there.
Qualifications:
The internship is open to qualified students who are able to begin work in or around June. The hours are flexible, but a minimum of 10 hours a week is highly desired. This internship will be particularly relevant to those interested in publishing/editing as a career. Applicants who are majoring in communications, journalism, English, or related humanities and who have a strong interest in the arts are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in the publishing/editing industry and be organized, efficient, and creative. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook are required.This is an unpaid internship and the applicant must be receiving academic credit to be considered.

New Media Intern [Metropolitan Waterworks Museum, Boston, MA]

Museum Description

The Metropolitan Waterworks Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Boston’s historic public water system. Based at the iconic Richardsonian Romanesque building opposite the Chestnut Hill Reservoir in the Cleveland Circle neighborhood, the Waterworks houses the three original, 19th century steam engines, as well as related artifacts and archival materials, that pumped millions of gallons of clean drinking water into the city beginning in the 1880s. It is the birthplace of water engineering technology in Boston, and the site of the earliest water quality laboratory in the United States. The Waterworks’ legacy is closely linked to the scientific, architectural, public health, and social development of the Hub.

Our mission: The Metropolitan Waterworks Museum uses its architecturally magnificent building, mammoth steam pumping engines, and the adjacent historic Chestnut Hill Reservoir to interpret unique stories of one of the country’s earliest metropolitan water systems. Through educational programs and exhibits focused on engineering, architecture, urbanism, public health, and social history, the Museum connects these stories to current issues and future challenges.

Position Summary

The Metropolitan Waterworks Museum seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual to join a close-knit team dedicated to growing the reach of the museum and its engineering and architectural collections. The intern will play a key role in the communications and marketing programs at the museum. S/he will support museum staff in the process of generating digital content and maintaining several social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.) as part of the Waterworks’ audience development and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

· Coordinate with Manager of Outreach & Development and Executive Director to pitch, create, post, manage, and analyze social media content related to the Waterworks Museum, including its history, collections, themes, and audiences.

· Assist with preparing, editing, organizing, and scheduling digital medial posts across multiple social platforms and emerging media channels.

· Prepare short-form written content or generate graphic materials (photographs, video, original graphics/infographics) for use in social media assets, blog, website, or in email marketing outreach.

· Monitor and analyze media metrics and prepare short summary reports regarding media reach.

· Contribute to generation of digital and traditional marketing content and outreach campaigns.

· Assist museum staff as necessary and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications

· Recent B.A. or graduate student preferred.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Demonstrated fluency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.) and email marketing systems.

· Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work toward deadlines as part of a small team.

· Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva or similar, Hootsuite or similar, Constant Contact or similar.

· Willingness to engage with and explore new media opportunities.

· Ability to work independently and interest in supporting a mission-based nonprofit organization.

Gallery Assistant – Fall 2016 [Cambridge Art Association, Cambridge, MA]

Description:
The Cambridge Art Association (CAA) is seeking an Gallery Assistant to work with our Assistant Director, and assist with the organization and implementation of our robust exhibition schedule. The Cambridge Art Association presents 20+ gallery exhibitions of work by regional artists, and an additional 20 exhibits in non-traditional galleries each year. These include juried, non-juried, curatorial, and pop-up exhibits. In addition to our exhibits, the CAA hosts regular professional development and networking events for both our 500+ Artist Members and the general public.

The Gallery Assistant will work directly with the Assistant Director in requesting materials and securing contracts from exhibiting artists; creating labels and additional information for exhibits; and creating exhibition catalogs. The Fall Gallery Assistant will also serve as the main point of contact for our fall exhibits, Fall Salon, RED, small group shows and more!

This internship is an excellent opportunity for an undergrad or graduate student interested in gaining hands on experience in a non-profit, community arts organization!

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have background in the visual arts or art history, and should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program; strong communications skills – both written and verbal; and an interest in exhibition coordination and development. The candidate should be an enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys working with the general public. The candidate must also be comfortable working independently, and able to lift and move heavy objects. Some art installation and transport experience is desired; however, we are willing to train the right candidate.

The candidate must have daytime and evening availability. (10-20 hours a week, available for school credit). We ask for a miniumim 3-month commitment – with 6 months preferred.
