As a key member of the Visitor Service Team, Nathaniel Hawthorne House/Hooper Hathaway Docent and Exhibit monitors interact with guests while answering questions and monitoring guest behavior in the self-guided areas of the site. Volunteers in these areas ensure that guests are respecting the historic spaces by following established rules. Answer guest questions regarding the historic site, Salem and surrounding area, other attractions in town in a positive and non-opinionated manner. To fulfill the Museum’s mission and goals, the Concierge volunteer staff member will assist primarily with greeting visitors and office-related projects, but also may help with other Museum programs and projects. As a key member of the Visitor Services Team, Admissions staff people interact with guest to the museum while staffing the front desk or monitoring the back door in the Visitor Center under the supervision of the Visitor Services Manager. Concierge staff may assist with giving Museum store tickets, communicating with guides, doing light paper work and answering guest’s questions regarding the museum, Salem and the surrounding area. Museum Educator (Docent) [Fuller Craft Museum]

Description:
Museum Educators are volunteer tour guides who engage visitors of all ages in interactive discussions, and support the mission of the Education Department.

  • Commitment: Complete a one-time, intensive Initial Training program of approximately six weekly 1.5-hour sessions covering basic program skills and content, leading toward qualification. Attend twice monthly team meetings to learn new programs, explore content, practice activities and share ideas. Fuller Craft Museum Educators deliver program experiences mostly on weekdays, with occasional exceptions. Demand is heaviest in the winter through late spring, through programs take place throughout the year, including the summer months.
  • In return for their time and service, Museum Educators (MEs) receive a complimentary Family Membership to Fuller Craft Museum.
  • In addition, MEs will also receive the following exclusive benefits: Preview tours of new exhibition, in-depth information about exhibition, special hands-on studio workshop opportunities, training in providing inquiry-based tours and other professional development

  • Appreciate art and the creative process.
  • Communicate effectively with children, students, and adults in group situations.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, a positive attitude, good judgment, and flexibility.
  • Enjoy undertaking and applying research.
  • Are available 4-5 hours per month for tours.
  • Can attend team meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Docent [Russell Museum at Mass General]

Description:
The Russell Museum at Mass General explores the hospital’s more than 200 years of history and the groundbreaking research happening here today. (More about the museum: http://www.massgeneral.org/museum/) Volunteer docents greet visitors, lead tours, and demonstrate pieces of technology and artifacts. Docents typically have one standing two- or three-hour shift per week; must have some flexibility to cover other shifts. Must be available a minimum of six months.
Qualifications:
Must be a friendly, compassionate people person, and must be interested in medical science.
