Coordinator of Teen Programs [Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY]

The Whitney Museum is hiring a Coordinator of Teen Programs. The successful candidate will be a dynamic educator with a deep knowledge of contemporary art, experience collaborating with artists, and a passion for working with NYC teens. The Coordinator will run the existing Youth Insights Programs, including Youth Insights Artists, Leaders, Introductions, and Arts Careers. The Coordinator will also work with the Teen Leaders to create teen-organized series programs and large scale events.

Responsibilities include:

– The design, management, and teaching of all aspects of the Whitney’s after school programs for high school students, including Youth Insights Artists and Leaders, Summer Arts Careers, and the YI Introductions Program for English Language Learner students

– The design and management (with our Teen Leaders) of large-scale public programs and smaller-scale, drop-in artist workshops for NYC teens

– Collaborating with Whitney artists to create and teach curriculum for programs

– Developing relationships with teachers from NYC high schools and staff at community based organizations, with the goal of doing targeted outreach to underserved or at-risk teen populations

– Inquiry-based teaching in the galleries

– The training and supervision of junior staff and interns

– Coordination and tracking of evaluation projects

– Management of budgets for current and future teen programming

– Working closely with other members of the School, Youth, and Family and Community and Access Programs teams, as well as other colleagues across the Museum

– The oversight and management of the Museum’s teen web pages and social media related to teen programming

– Writing grants and grant reports

– Meeting and communicating with foundations and donors

– Contributing to the museum community through publications and conference presentations

Requirements: B.A. (Master’s Degree or MFA preferred); background in art history, fine art, American studies and/or museum education; 3-5 years professional experience with fluency in a second language a plus. The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills and will be able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Position requires travel throughout NYC and extended hours for program implementation during the week and on weekends.

Applicants should have experience working with contemporary artists, knowledge of art practice, experience working with high school students and teachers, knowledge of current educational theory, and experience with program research and evaluation.

Assistant to Access and Community Programs [Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY]

The Whitney Museum is hiring a full-time temporary Assistant to Access and Community Programs to assist in the planning and implementation of all aspects of the Museum’s access and community programs.

The Museum’s award-winning access and community programs welcome all visitors to experience the richness, diversity, and significance of American art and culture in an inclusive arts environment.

The Assistant to Access and Community Programs will:

– Assist with educational programs that serve diverse audiences including visitors with physical, sensory, developmental, and cognitive disabilities, low-income seniors, residents of the nearby NYCHA houses, immigrants, and LGBTQ youth.

– Assist with development, coordination and implementation of educational programs on and off- site in partnership with educators and artists for a wide range of community-based organizations;

– Assist with public engagement including outreach, audience development initiatives, large-scale public programs, and smaller-scale artist workshops;

– Assist with coordination and meeting facilitation for the Whitney Education Community Advisory Network (WECAN), a group of downtown neighborhood stakeholders who meet regularly to advise the Museum on programming and audience development initiatives;

– Coordinate the production of accessible materials and accommodations for Whitney exhibitions and digital media projects, including large print, transcripts, captioning, and more;

– Maintain assistive equipment, such as assistive listening devices, on-site at the Museum;

– Provide administrative support to access and community programs department, including but not limited to scheduling, invoicing, budget tracking, supply orders, attendance tracking, program evaluation, and reporting.

– Provide administrative support for programs and initiatives to make the Whitney a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and abilities;

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should be passionate about and have knowledge of contemporary art and social movements (i.e. immigrant justice, racial justice, LGBTQ justice, disability justice). B.A.; MA or MFA degree in education, museum studies, disability studies, studio art, art history, or a related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in speaking and writing about the arts; Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or ASL a plus. Background in research, outreach, accessibility, and community arts education. Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities, some knowledge of art making practices, and a commitment to social justice. New Yorkers and those with a background in community organizing are especially encouraged to apply.

Operations Manager [New Hampshire Boat Museum, Wolfeboro, NH]

Function of Position

The Operations Manager assists the Museum’s Executive Director and an active board to help implement a range of services to ensure the Museum operates efficiently on a daily basis. Duties include but are not limited to fundraising and membership support, executive support, events management, customer service, exhibition curation, and Museum Store management. This position reports to and receives instruction from the Executive Director.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintains and manages the membership and donor database in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Stays current with membership trends in the museum field and spearheads membership drives
  • Implements all data entry and acknowledgements processes, including correspondence, membership renewals, new member packets, thank you letters, and Annual Appeal campaign.
  • Provides reports as requested from databases.
  • Provides front desk back-up support as necessary.
  • Manages Museum Store, maintains an accurate inventory, orders and prices items for sale, & works with Museum Store vendors.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of special events.
  • Updates and manages the Museum’s website and assists with social media posts.
  • Opens and closes Museum with the front desk staff.
  • Performs various clerical duties including filing and office supplies ordering.
  • Assists with annual exhibition research and curation.
  • Serves as Development Assistant for Capital Campaign project including all database entry and thank you letters, attending weekly meetings, and note taking and distribution.
  • Various other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of computers and databases, particularly Microsoft Office 2013
  • Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Past Perfect.
  • Positive outlook and flexibility in a fast-paced two-person museum.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the general public, members, and
  • Board of Trustees.
  • Ability to take direction and to function independently.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to monitor work schedule and workload to meet deadlines.
