The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory is seeking a Staff Associate to work with our International Research Institute for Climate and Society’s successful and growing team. In accordance with the International Research Institute for Climate and Society’s mission, which is to enhance society’s capability to understand anticipate and manage the impacts of climate in order to improve human welfare, especially in developing countries, the responsibilities of this position will be to advance research in integrating climate information (monitoring and forecast) into applications for natural disasters and emergencies, within the humanitarian sector, in particular for floods, which will benefit IRI’s partner community (e.g. International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent and NASA).

Ambassadors organize and facilitate the Community Leaders program, leading actions in the five Greenovate vision areas (Mobile, Prepared, Connected, Smart Energy, and Zero Waste). Ambassadors also serve in an advisory role in the considerations and integration of equity into the department’s work and socially vulnerable populations-specific programming, breaking down barriers that have historically prevented Boston’s most vulnerable populations from engaging in climate action.

Climate Positive Approaches Fellow (Arlington, VA)

The Fellow, Climate Positive Approaches will lead research and analysis to developing a clear methodology and vision for what a ‘climate positive’ land use paradigm entails, considering: zones of zero-expansion of new agricultural land into natural ecosystems and species-rich forests; management practices in the agricultural sector that can increase production and economic opportunities without increasing the agricultural land footprint; opportunities for reorientation of agricultural priorities; and definition of management policies for restoring and reforesting degraded land. Upon the development of a vision for how a geography or jurisdiction can become ‘climate positive.’
