George Mason University’s Office of Sustainability is excited to announce the immediate opening of a temporary, Sustainability Specialist position. Supervised by the Sustainability Director and working in close collaboration with the Sustainability Program Manager team, the Sustainability Specialist is responsible for collecting, reviewing, analyzing, and communicating information pertinent to Mason’s 2020 AASHE STARS submission.

The Public Interest Network is a network of advocacy organizations that run campaigns to protect our environment, health, safety and wellbeing. They organize citizens and lobby state and federal leaders to take action on the pressing issues of our day — from tackling climate change to grappling with the plastic waste crisis.
Creative Team and Communications interns with the Public Interest Network will help write, edit, design and proofread emails, newsletters, annual reports and campaign materials for a host of non-profit organizations, and develop content and execute ideas for social media campaigns. They will have opportunities to pursue additional projects that they feel passionate about.

The Zero Waste Atlas Fellowship is a brand new 50-hour program PLAN is launching in 2020 to provide students with the hands-on training and experience to be able to perform a zero waste assessment of their campus. Atlas Fellows will learn how to use the Atlas Campus Programs Checklist to perform the interviews needed to gather data for the campus assessment.

PLAN is looking for two students who are excited about the Circular Economy and campus zero waste infrastructure. The Zero Waste Strategy interns will work with both PLAN’s Director of Partnerships and Director of Engagement to develop our Program Case Study Library on zero waste programs at schools across the country and review and expand existing partnerships with campuses, organizations, and companies that are outlined within the Library. Through this internship, students will have the opportunity to connect with PLAN’s staff and other organizations with related missions, both for-profits and non-profits. Like all positions at PLAN, interns will gain a thorough understanding of the intersections of the global waste crisis with broader social and environmental justice movements, as well as the relationship between campus contracts and partnerships. This position is perfect for someone with excellent research and writing skills.

CitySprouts’ Summer Program is based in Cambridge and Boston and provides 90 youth (ages 11-14) with hands-on learning through growing, harvesting, preparing and eating healthy food in an urban garden. With an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the summer program fosters a strong connection to their natural urban environment through working and learning in the garden. CitySprouts is seeking, energetic, diverse, and outgoing college students* to provide essential support to the Summer Program. CitySprouts Summer Fellows can expect a significant learning opportunity as well as opportunities for career exploration.
