Resiliency Planning / Engineering Intern, Arcadis, (Wakefield, MA or Long Island City, NY)

The Water Business Line of Arcadis is seeking a candidate to join their world-class firm in Wakefield, MA or Long Island City, NY. The intern will support our Urban and Coastal Resiliency Planning Group and will primarily focus on hazard mitigation and urban / community resilience planning, economic analyses, benefit cost analyses, and project implementation planning support.  Working with Professional Engineers, scientists, and planners, the Intern will perform assignments designed to utilize and develop professional skills and knowledge significant in the field. The Intern will work on multiple, unique assignments simultaneously and will need to possess strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, team-oriented and flexible individual, ready to take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment and willing to help where needed.

Sustainable Mobility Intern, MassDOT (Boston, MA)

Reporting to the Director of Sustainable Mobility in the MassDOT Secretary’s Office, the Sustainable Mobility Intern will be responsible for supporting a wide variety of projects related to the implementation of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans. The responsibilities in this position are extremely varied, with many different topics and types of tasks depending on priority projects, experience and interest. A successful applicant needs to be very detail-oriented, independent, proactive, and organized. It is also critical to be able to write and communicate effectively, to be able to work constructively in a large and complex organization.

Global Sustainability Summer School, Santa Fe Institute and The University of Chicago (Santa Fe, NM)

The SFI/Mansueto Institute Global Sustainability Summer School (GSSS) offers an intensive 2-week program on urban sustainability. The school is organized around a set of cutting-edge, interdisciplinary lectures and discussions that focus on many interdependent aspects of cities. It offers an in-depth overview and hands-on experience to prepare participants to work and conduct research in areas related to urban sustainability. The program runs from July 27 to August 7, 2020.

Summer Garden Crew, UMass Permaculture (Amherst, MA)

Members of the Summer Crew work to support the planning and upkeep of the UMass Permaculture gardens and educate garden visitors. The Summer Crew will maintain our on-campus permaculture sites at Franklin, Berkshire, Hillside, Worcester, and Hampshire. Daily responsibilities may include planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, or working with volunteers. Crew members may also assist in longer-term projects, such as repairing raised beds, installing mushroom production systems, plant design, and other tasks as needed.

Student Garden Coordinator, UMass Permaculture Initiative (Amherst, MA)

The Student Garden Coordinator works under the Sustainability Coordinator of Campus Gardens to support the planning and upkeep of the UMass Permaculture gardens and education of garden visitors. For this role, the Student Garden Coordinator will work part-time Spring, Summer, and Fall with the option of working beyond. This position works with all those who come through the garden, including volunteers, tour groups, and the UMass Permaculture Garden Crew. We consider the Student Garden Coordinator role an apprenticeship, to be fully immersed in all elements of the UMass Permaculture program.
