The Environmental Studies Program is looking for a work-study student for 2-3 hrs a week ($13/hr) to design posters for our weekly lecture series and do social media outreach. The candidate must be proficient in poster design and social media use. Candidates who also have video-making skills or other skills to produce visual products (e.g. StoryMaps) are preferred.

This position can be done remotely as long as the student has access to adequate software to design posters. Otherwise, they will be required to come in person to use a computer in the Environmental Studies Program (Barnum Hall).

Interested students must submit a cover letter, resume, and a work sample including a poster, video, or other visual work sample. This position is only open to undergraduate students – those in the ENVS Program will be given preference.

New Entry’s mission is to promote sustainable agriculture and help to strengthen local food systems. We offer a variety of opportunities for fall internships, directed-study, research projects, and work-study employment. Available Positions:

Outreach and Communications Intern – help spearhead new communications projects; assist with tabling/outreach to community groups at conferences and events; develop content for New Entry newsletters and social media sites; solicit media coverage for events and news. Assist New Entry with creation of brochures, flyers, resource guide layout, and other visual identity needs. Compile and update resources and links in the online resource library.

Farmer Training Program Intern – assist with special projects associated with Farmer Training learning objectives and grant deliverables; prepare course materials for trainings; schedule speakers and field trips to farms/markets; coordinate logistics for training courses; attend training sessions and provide technical assistance to participants; evaluate training sessions and revise training manuals. Support participants across online and in-person courses including Farm Business Planning and Crop Production. Support farm manager with production related needs in the field.

Food Hub and Food Access Intern – assist with marketing activities of New Entry Food Hub create promotional materials for the CSA and assist with shareholder recruitment; prepare newsletter/recipe templates; facilitate food access partnerships to expand access for low income families. Assist with the aggregation and distribution of produce coming and going from the food hub for CSA and food access shares. Help build relationships across the local food supply chain.

National Programs Intern – support various aspects of our National and State Networks work including outreach efforts, resource management, and data analysis. This internship offers the opportunity to work closely with the National Program Manager, interfacing with our national capacity building efforts and network facilitation for organizations across the country working on beginning farmer training and local food systems issues

Indiana University and the Indiana State Department of Health are leading the efforts from the Indiana Food Council Network to create a statewide food charter and relevant policy pieces and toolkit type information for food councils. We are in need of an intern that would be able to create a somewhat comprehensive guide as to where food councils can affect policy change that can have impact in different settings. This chapter or working document for Indiana’s food councils will build capacity for their organizations to find and target policies that impact food in some way. Examples like school wellness policies, workplace vending policies, purchasing policies for food service, snack policies for teachers in classrooms, etc. This chapter/toolkit would identify places where policies exist and examples of new policy that can have positive impacts. Research on how effective policies are and the unforeseen consequences and benefits would also be needed. Examples of how a collective of food councils can recommend policy for state legislature is also needed. This one semester commitment will have a practical outcome: your ‘how to find and affect food policy in your community and state’ document for your resume, and authorship/credit in the Indiana Food Charter document.
