Ruby on Rails Programmer: Adopt-A-Storm Drain Website, City of Medford Office of Energy & Environment (Medford, MA / Remote)

The City of Medford’s Office of Energy & Environment is looking to hire a programmer for a short-term project to create an interactive web map for the launch of the City’s new Adopt-A-Storm Drain Program. Adopt-a-Drain programs are volunteer efforts run by municipalities around the country to help keep drains free of debris which can clog them and cause flooding, or end up in nearby rivers and lakes. These programs also help enhance civic engagement, educate the community about environmental issues, and cultivate a sense of stewardship for the local environment.

We are looking for someone who will adapt existing open source code written in Ruby on Rails. The work will involve “forking” open source code via GitHub for San Francisco’s Adopt-A-Drain program, which is the most up-to-date version of this project, and adapting it for Medford. This will entail replacing the drain data and web text with Medford’s data and information, and deploying the site. A stipend of $500 will be provided, and the project is expected to take about 20-30 hours of work, possibly less. This task may also make a good final project for a computer science or web mapping class. This project requires proven experience in Ruby on Rails. Other required technical experience includes:

CPL Research Assistantships for State-Owned Enterprise Energy Study, Fletcher School CIERP (Medford, MA / Remote)

The Climate Policy Lab is seeking four research assistants to conduct background research on state-owned energy enterprises (SOEs) in a wide range of countries (BRICS, majority of the EU countries, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Morocco). Research assistants will be expected to conduct an inventory of national energy SOEs in three to six countries and also assemble key information regarding SOEs size and operations, investments, climate change strategies, and other financial and corporate metrics.

Qualifications: Candidates should be detail oriented and have experience collecting, collating and organizing quantitative and qualitative data. Proficiency in Excel is a must. Language skills in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, or Chinese is a plus. Interest in clean energy is preferred. Candidates should be current Fletcher School students who are available to start working on this project immediately. The hourly rate is $17. The estimated work volume is approximately 8 hours/week for 4-6 weeks.

Post-Landfill Action Network, Zero Waste Atlas Fellowship

Student Fellowship, Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility

ICCR (Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility) is looking for
college/university undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for climate solutions. Student Fellows will research companies to help environmentally responsible shareholders in their crucial efforts to push companies to align corporate lobbying with the net-zero emission goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. In order to get the climate solutions we need, companies have to move forward quickly in their climate commitments and actions, and shareholders are key to making this happen.

Students would provide research for a new institutional investor campaign on corporate climate lobbying for ICCR, a global investor organization based in the U.S. founded to shape the corporate social responsibility movement. Company-level research is needed for shareholder conversations with companies and shareholder resolutions. Students will learn the importance of shareholder activism and documenting company progress. Students will be given the opportunity to work directly with ICCR program staff, to gain a better understanding of the issues and the field of
corporate social responsibility.

Student applicants are welcome from a wide range of academic programs and geographies. We want applicants to have strong time management skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word and have decent writing skills. (Proficiency in Excel is a bonus.) Applicants should be able to commit to 3-4 hours per week on average, with flexibility. Students need to commit for at least 1 month. Student Fellow positions are volunteer and unpaid.
