If you’re at all interested in this great opportunity, check out the info session this Tuesday, October 14th, from 7 to 8 PM in Pearson 104! Welcome to the 2014-2015 Year!

Welcome back to all of our members, and welcome to the Class of 2018 (or older students who’ve made the switch to pre-vet)! As the puppy suggests, we had a relaxing summer break, but the Pre-Vet Society is back and busier than ever! We have a lot of great events coming up this month that we welcome your participation in. On September 14th, the Pre-Vet Society will be volunteering at Somerville Dog Fest 2014, an all-day event celebrating dogs and their owners that will raise money for local shelters. We are also having our annual trip to the Open House at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine on September 21st, along with other fun guest speakers and fundraisers throughout the semester!
Stop by our table at the Student Organizations Fair or our GIM (stay tuned for a confirmed time and location) to learn more about all of these opportunities! An email will also be sent out with more information on all of the events mentioned above. Good luck to everyone on a new school year!

Volunteer at KIDS DAY 2014!

This Saturday, 4/19, is Tufts’ annual Kids Day, a day of giving back to the youth of the Medford/Somerville community. The Tufts Pre-Vet Society is taking part in this celebration by setting up a face-painting booth for kids! This is a great opportunity to give back to the community, and no experience is necessary–the kids will love anything you do! If you’re interested in volunteering at the booth, simply come by Gantcher between 11:30-12:30 or 1:30-2:45! Hope to see you there! See attached flier for more info.kids day

Healthy Week Speaker Tomorrow, 4/9

Dr Mertz TalkAs part of Healthy Week, the Tufts Pre-Vet Society is honored to be hosting Dr. Greg Mertz, a wildlife vet who will be speaking about his experiences in exotic animal medicine. As Chief Executive Director of the New England Wildlife Center, Dr. Mertz’s patients range from birds to reptiles to invertebrates. The event will be in Pearson 104 from 3-4 PM. Food will be provided. See attached flier for additional info. All are welcome!

Guest Speaker Wednesday, March 4th

lawyerspeakerWe welcome everyone to attend our next guest lecture this Wednesday, March 4th from 6-7PM in Barnum 104. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Paul Wagoner, an assistant district attorney for Essex County. He prosecutes cases related to animal cruelty, and recently argued a case in the Supreme Judicial Court pertaining to whether the emergency exception to the warrant requirement of the US Constitution can be applied if an animal is in mortal danger. This is the first lawyer to be hosted by the Pre-Vet Society, and should be a very interesting new take on animal welfare that diverges from the traditional medical perspective. If you’re interested in law, veterinary medicine, or animal rights, join us for an informative and exciting discussion! Food and drinks will be provided!
