Evening Speaker: Dr. Monica Burns

Dr. Monika Burns, a double Jumbo and recent Veterinary school graduate doing her residency in lab animal medicine will be speaking this Wednesday to the Pre-Vet Society! Dr. Burns not only offers expertise in lab animal medicine, but also provides a unique perspective seeing as she was so recently exactly where so many of us stand- facing the prospect of applying to vet school. Come hear what she has to say and bring questions! Pizza provided!
Pre-Vet Lunch Talk with Dr. Innes of the New England Aquarium
Come to Barnum 104 during open block this Wednesday (10/15) to hear from a great speaker and enjoy a free lunch. Our speaker, Dr. Charles Innis, is a veterinarian at the New England Aquarium Medical Center. He will be discussing his work with a large range of marine and aquatic species at the clinic. Dr. Innis will also be happy to take questions from students about his career path, as well as his perspective on working in the field of aquatic medicine.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our final events of the Spring 2013 semester! After having great speakers and trips throughout the Spring, we wrapped things up by taking part in Tufts’ Relay for Life and by going whale watching. Stay tuned to find out the date of our end of semester General Meeting!

The assistant director of admissions for the Tufts Veterinary School, Ford Barnett, will be the giving a presentation on general preparation for vet school, the admissions process, and the Early Assurance Program. Pre-Health Advisors, Stephanie Ripley and Carol Baffi-Dugan, will also be there to speak with any students entering the regular application process for veterinary school in 2013.

The Pre-Vet Society is taking a behind the scenes tour of the Boston Aquarium. Not only will it be a lot of fun, but it offers a look into one of the many options in the veterinary field! If you were interested, but aren’t signed up don’t worry, we’re considering doing another tour coinciding with our whale watching trip in April so be sure to let us know you’re interested!

Our second speaker of the year, the Tufts University Research Veterinarian for the Medford/Somerville Campus, will be coming after spring break. Once again this is a speaker who will talk about a less traditional career in Veterinary medicine and should have many interesting things to say. More details will be made known as we get closer to March.
Also, in early April, Public Health at Tufts (PHAT) hosts Healthy Week! Be sure to look for the Pre-Vet Society at the event!
Doctor Talk this Wednesday!
Dr. Lisa Freeman, the Tufts Cummings Veterinary School’s own pet nutritionist, will be giving a talk this Wednesday, February 20th from 12-1 pm in the Crane Room in Paige Hall! All students are welcome to come and encouraged to bring friends, whether you’re pre-vet, interested in nutrition, or just really into pets! Free pizza will be provided.
