SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Special Projects Coordinator position generates both unrestricted and restricted dollars for the Museum of Science through two primary initiatives: the Boston Marathon and the Washburn Challenge. In partnership with the Director of Campaign Operations, this position works with the Special Projects Advisory Committee to strategically formalize the two anchor projects and also to formulate additional projects as necessary. The position cultivates and stewards Special Projects participants and prospects, carrying a portfolio of 40-50 prospects. Working with the Director of Campaign Operations and Prospect Management, this position solicits individuals, corporations and foundations for sponsorship and in-kind support of Special Projects. In addition, this position manages other special fundraising initiatives as needed, stewards affinity groups, and maintains the Museum’s state fundraising registrations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Raise approximately $200,000 annually through the two anchor Special Projects: Boston Marathon and Washburn Challenge.
  • Bi-annually manage the $45,000 September Salem Days budget
  • Raise an additional $5K – $10K in sponsorship dollars for the two anchor Special Projects with the Director of Campaign Operations and Prospect Management
  • 40-50 Prospects will be cultivated and solicited for various Special Projects fundraising initiatives
  • Implement at least 4 annual events:
    • The Boston Marathon Kick-Off (attendance: approx. 250)
    • The Boston Marathon Celebration Dinner (attendance: 50)
    • The Washburn Challenge Recruitment Event (attendance: approx. 100)
    • The Washburn Challenge Celebration Dinner (attendance: 60+)

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday.
REPORTS TO:

Director, Campaign Operations and Prospect Management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of fundraising, donor and/or participant engagement, stewardship, and event planning experience.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently on projects.
  • Ability to successfully solicit gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Cultivation skills i.e. engaging new and prospective donors.
  • Attention to detail and comfort in managing multiple program budgets.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, reliability and the ability to think proactively.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to meet various (sometimes overlapping) deadlines.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork ability.
  • Data management skills.
  • Microsoft software including Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Experience in event planning.

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
