The Zimmerli Art Museum, Morse Research Center for Graphic Arts, Rutgers located on the College Avenue campus of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ seeks an Assistant Curator specializing in graphic arts.  Established in 1966 as the Rutgers University Art Gallery, the museum’s collection of 60,000 objects ranges from ancient to contemporary art and features particularly rich holdings in the areas of American art, French art of the nineteenth century, and Russian and Soviet Nonconformist Art.

The Assistant Curator will steward, interpret, and make accessible the museum’s collection of approximately 40,000 prints, drawings, photographs and rare books.  The employee will participate fully in collections care, exhibitions, museum programs, and external development related to the graphic arts collection.  Responsibilities include working with museum colleagues to research, document, conserve, and manage the collection; proposing and organizing regular exhibitions from the collection as well as special exhibitions; assisting researchers and managing class visits to the Morse Center study room; researching and proposing new acquisitions; administering loan requests and collection inquiries; assisting with supervision of student employees and interns; working with museum education and university colleagues to create and contribute to museum programs; assisting with donor cultivation and providing content for grant applications.

Requirements

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree preferably in art history or a related field; or a combination of education and/or experience.  Also requires two years museum experience and the use of museum collection databases.  Knowledge of museum practices regarding graphic arts care and handling; and skills in scanning images are desirable.  Candidates should possess excellent writing and communications skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office suite.  Candidates with an advanced degree such as a Master’s or Ph.D in a related field are highly preferred as well as candidates with graphic arts curatorial experience and/or with expertise in American Art.   All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.  To apply candidates are required to submit application materials solely via the Rutgers University Human Resources website.  See URL listed.
