Description

We are looking for a dynamic professional leader for our educational team for the Scottsdale Cultural Council, a leading nonprofit arts organization in the southwest. This unique opportunity is for a select candidate who has a proven track record of dynamic, inspirational educational programming geared towards engaging all age groups from pre-k through senior citizens. If you have a passion for the arts, and the powerful impact they can have on people’s lives, we want to meet with you.

The Scottsdale Cultural Council was established in 1987 as a private, nonprofit management company contracted by the City of Scottsdale to independently administer its arts and cultural affairs. Since then, the Cultural Council has become a regionally and nationally significant arts organization with three principal operating divisions – each with a distinct focus and mission – spanning the performing and visual arts: Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) and Scottsdale Public Art. The success of the Cultural Council is grounded in the concept of partnership and an ongoing mission to create connections between artists and audiences through diverse, high-quality arts experiences and educational and outreach opportunities. Through its three divisions, the Cultural Council presents and hosts approximately 1,800 events annually serving more than 300,000 Scottsdale residents and visitors, while fostering the active engagement of government, business, education and the private sector with the arts.

The Director of Education and Outreach is the Scottsdale Cultural Council’s leader in the area of determining the path for our educational programs and engagement in the arts curriculums and special events we provide. The Director of Education will serve as a respected manager/coach who will inspire their team and lead through example. This position serves on our Senior Management Team and works closely with the President and Board of Trustees.

Knowledge and abilities needed to be successful in this position:

  • Extensive knowledge in implementing successful education and outreach programs that will reach across and engage all of our operating divisions.
  • Representing the SCC at a variety of functions or events to promote departmental initiatives
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships within the community
  • Ability to lead, influence, and negotiate
  • Proven track record of meeting department/organizational goals
  • Knowledge, passion and desire to work in support of visual and performing arts
Requirements

This position requires a Master’s degree along with 8 to 10 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility and oversight of a department. A minimum of 3 years of that experience must include active supervision and leading of others to reach departmental goals. The ability to work flexible hours is required.

The Director of Education and Outreach position is full time, with a rich benefits plan including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, supplemental life insurance, long term disability and more! We offer a 401K after a year’s employment and a Paid Time Off Program with a full holiday schedule. Salary commensurate with experience.
