Description:
The Concord Museum is seeking two responsible and detail-oriented individuals to fill two positions of Collections Inventory Specialist, reporting to the Collections Manager. The two Collections Inventory Specialists will work together to complete a systematic inventory, photography, and packing of the contents of a collections storage space in preparation for moving the collections offsite. The varied collections objects include furniture, framed art, household goods, militaria, and archives. This is a great opportunity to work directly with a diverse and historically significant collection.
Qualifications:
The Collections Inventory Specialist must have great attention to detail and at least 2 years of collections management experience including direct care of museum collections objects. Proper object handling skills and experience with collections management databases is required; digital photography skills, prior collections inventory experience, and packing objects for transport is strongly desired. Must work efficiently as part of a team, and have the ability to lift 30 pounds. This is a part-time (28 hours per week), temporary position from about June through December 2016. $13/hour. High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks an intern with a special interest in contemporary craft to work with three members of the MFA’s curatorial staff: the Katharine Lane Weems Senior Curator of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture and the Ellyn McColgan Assistant Curator of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture, both in the Art of the Americas department, as well as the Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts in the Contemporary Art department. The intern will assist in research, correspondence, evaluation, and administration related to the MFA’s collections of American studio furniture and American studio glass, as well as help with developing the collection of contemporary East Asian and Southeast Asian jewelry and metalwork. This internship is a rare opportunity to learn the role of craft in a large encyclopedic museum from three different perspectives and two departments. Through this position, the intern will develop research skills, enhance both general and professional writing ability, develop skills in evaluation and connoisseurship, and gain exposure to multiple curatorial perspectives and the range of curatorial responsibilities.

 

This position will be for five days a week for 12 weeks, although alternate schedules may be arranged to accommodate the intern’s schedule. A stipend of $5,000 will be offered.

Qualifications:
B.A. in art history or a related academic field required; graduate study or completion of a graduate degree is strongly preferred, as is familiarity and experience with contemporary craft. The intern must be a currently enrolled student or recent graduate.

The Buyer will determine the overall strategic direction of the product/merchandise mix for the Retail/Exhibition Division for jewelry and fashion textiles. Specific responsibilities include establishing merchandise assortments for stores and exhibitions, achieving sales and gross margin goals and ensuring appropriate inventory levels are maintained. The Buyer will determine store unique pricing strategies to ensure GM goals, preparing reports on sales, and ensuring the correct assortments are maintained for specific needs of each store. The Buyer should maintain good business relations with customers as well as the MFA vendor base.

 

Essential Functions:

 

• Review, update and procure store assortments based on LY needs and current trends to ensure a proper balance of fashion (contemporary) and MFA basics.
• Attend trade shows, meet with vendors and vendor representatives to review and evaluate product lines.
• Evaluate the NRQ replenishment models within each department on a quarterly basis to ensure that appropriate styles and inventory levels are in place to maximize sales.
• Complete financial plans for each season with realistic and achievable sales, GM and turn goals.
• Work within Open-to-Buy to finalize buy quantities by style and maintain a flow of goods. Participate in monthly meetings to review open to buy reports to ensure receipt flow allows us to meet plan by department.
• Work with Director and Designer to concept, suggest and execute MFA appropriate product based on the MFA’s collection and trends happening within the market and the store’s business.
• Inject market product where needed to meet receipt plan and meet individual store assortment needs.
• Participate in seasonal sales re-cap by department of assortment “hits and misses”. Utilize this analysis to build sales.
• Review sales on a daily and weekly level versus LY and PL to better understand customer needs and initiate markdowns on a timely basis.
• Determine product focus by department by month to ensure “newness” on the retail floors and the website.
• Adhere to Exhibition assortment conception and confirmation schedule to deliver product timely for the Exhibition shop set-up.
• Recommend product categories to highlight in all advertising channels.
• Seasonal market review to determine trends, conduct competitive shopping for content and pricing.
• Seasonal store assortment presentations to store management team. Supply hard copy assortment plans for store’s reference.
• Monthly meetings with Director to report by store on sales results, GM, receipt flow, NRQ, Exhibition schedule, trends, markdowns, visual, housekeeping and other related issues.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination of training and experience
• Prior buying experience a must
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Detailed oriented, visually intuitive and able to work independently
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong mathematical skills with the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages
• Specific retail calculations such as gross margin, inventory turns, weeks of supply and sell through are necessary
• Excellent computer skills
• Valid Driver’s License

The Retail Web Manager will be responsible for the strategic direction of the MFA On-line retail site. Responsibilities include: generating and updating the website content (products, content, and promotions); working knowledge of the systems supporting the on-line store; build traffic to the on-line store and the resulting sales; plan, define and implement website changes and functional improvements; monitor key performance indicators on the website and develop plans to improve them.

 

System management:
• Manage the on-line store platform and associated systems.
• Manage website configuration and parameters (eg; stock management, shipping rates and options, tax rates, etc.).
• Investigate and report any operational/technical issues arising.
• Test and deploy functional projects/deployments.
• Liaise with internal resources regarding the day to day management of the on-line store.
• Evaluate approaches and strategies to improve website sales conversion and customer engagement.

 

On-line shop management:
• Create, edit, proofread and delete items to create a dynamic, sales producing web presence. Update product information, images, and content when necessary.
• Write/obtain copy for all new items. Review items periodically to make sure all information is current.
• Monitor item level inventory reports. Request information from buyers on out of stock or reordered items. From that information, determine if items should be taken off temporarily or permanently, or if a message about expected in stock date should be supplied.
• Supply recommended sales budgets to Director of Retail during preparation of next fiscal budgets. Complete financial sales plan breakdowns by period.
• Review sales on a daily and weekly, and seasonal level versus LY and PL to better understand customer behavior and initiate promotions on a timely basis.
• Manage promotional email program. Meet on a regular basis with the Database Marketing team to plan the retail emails. Load schedule and assets on SharePoint. Maintain master schedule of promotions. Meet with buyers to develop email offers. Provide image requirements to Graphic Designer. Serve as lead contact for Database Marketing.

 

Marketing management:
• Understand and develop sources of traffic: email, SEO, PPC, affiliates, social media, etc.
• Manage social media for on-line shop.
• Liaise with in-house teams to implement and support campaigns.
• Investigate, evaluate and assess new ways of generating traffic/orders.
• Produce reports to analyze performance of all on-line marketing campaigns and promotions (via reports, analytics, surveys, etc.).

 

Merchandising:
• Work with buyers to secure all necessary information per product, (copy information, samples of items to photograph, inventory due dates, etc); finalize assortment for the upcoming season. Utilize selling history and trends to challenge buyers to add strong web items. Suggest product based on trends happening within the on-line business and retail market.
• Participate in seasonal and exhibition sales post-mortem re-caps.
• Determine product focus to ensure “newness” and compatibility with museum exhibitions and events on the site.
• Adhere to Exhibition assortment conception and confirmation schedule to offer product timely for the Exhibition. Capture any promotional pre-sell available on catalogs or existing product. Always promote upcoming exhibitions.
• Recommend product categories to highlight in promotional schedule. Develop promotional strategy by season, utilizing creative ways beyond discounting to gain new customers.
• Meet with Director of Retail to report on sales results, promotional opportunities, Exhibition schedule, trends, and other related opportunities.
• Work with web and design staff to maintain and upgrade on-line store.

Qualifications:
• BS degree with three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Detail-oriented and able to prioritize tasks; dependability is a must.
• Exceptional communication (written/verbal) and organizational skills.
• Must be visually intuitive and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities, the Manager of Engineering Services is responsible for managing the daily operation and maintenance of the physical plant of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA). Essential functions include: manage direct report staff, including the electrical shop supervisor and the engineering supervisor, and indirectly manage employees in the bargaining unit; responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems in order to provide precise climate control for the preservation of the Museum’s collection, Museum visitors and staff; provide engineering and support as required to all MFA properties; maintain financial data, inspection reports and related service contracts; assist the Director of Facilities with developing and managing the annual budget; manage vendor relationships, outside contractors, safety training for staff and ensure that OSHA safety standards are met; provide project management for assigned capital projects, exhibit installations and renovations; work with various Museum departments on building related projects.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or other relevant Facilities Management training.
• Minimum of ten years of experience in Facilities Management (preferably in a Museum environment).
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, DDC, fire and energy management systems.
• A demonstrated track record of managing and motivating staff.
• Experience in union environment a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including managing vendor/contractor relationships.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Strong project management skills, budget management, planning, procurement and forecasting.
• Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Word, Excel and building automation systems).
• Essential physical demands include: the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; frequently turn, twist, bend, stoop, lift up to 50lbs, climb ladders and reach over head; working in confined spaces may be required.
• The ability to stay abreast of new developments in Facilities Management, including safety and other legal requirements.
• Required to be available, on-call, 24/7 for emergencies.
