Interpretive Specialist
Horticulture – Position Application Number: H-1554
BASIC JOB FUNCTION
The Interpretive Specialist oversees project management and execution for portions of the interpretive program including signage for special exhibitions and permanent collections, audio tours, mobile experiences, and other interpretive projects as needed. S/He assists in coordinating long-term interpretive planning.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify interpretive needs for special exhibits and permanent collection with the Curator of Interpretive Content for Public Engagement and other members of the Horticulture staff.
• Manage aspects of interpretive development including writing, editing, routing for credits and approval, design, production, and installation.
• Research content for interpretation and write interpretive text as needed. Along with the Curator of Interpretive Content for Public Engagement, identify appropriate staff or consultants to write interpretation and manage process to ensure timely delivery.
• Oversee maintenance and distribution of audio tours. Oversee development process for tours along with the Curator of Interpretive Content for Public Engagement.
• Review, maintain, conduct inventory and update all existing interpretive content as needed including audio tours, signage, collateral, and any other modes of interpretation that might exist. Ensure that all materials are in compliance with the requirements set forth by the American Disabilities Act.
• Track and evaluate usage of interpretive tools and develop reports.
REQUIREMENTS
• College Degree, preferably with a concentration in a science, art, or museum related field.
• Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing, and managing interpretation for exhibits, preferably at an informal science or cultural organization.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Must have strong communication and writing skills.
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is seeking an Education Associate for the Education Department. The Education Associate, Learning Through Art, coordinates selected school-based artists residencies, and participates more generally in the management of the Learning Through Art program. The Education Associate also participates in the Education Department activities as necessary and relevant.
The Learning Through Art program (LTA) places practicing teaching artists in New York City public school classrooms, where they collaborate with teachers to create process-oriented art projects that examine ideas and themes related to the school curriculum. In these 20-week residencies, teaching artists introduce art techniques and concepts and encourage students to view, analyze, and discuss works of art.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The position oversees selected Learning Through Art Teaching Artists and the LTA volunteers.
Key Responsibilities:
– Supervise selected teaching artists in 20-week residencies at NYC elementary schools.
– Observe, evaluate, and provide pedagogical oversight and support for the LTA program at each site.
– Communicate with teachers and administrators.
– Lead gallery tours for students and teachers.
– Work with LTA team on all areas of the program, including professional development for participating teachers and teaching artists and the annual exhibition A Year with Children.
– Manage LTA Volunteer program including recruiting volunteers, check-in meetings, and providing feedback
– Manage family outreach initiatives for LTA schools including a large scale family day in the spring
– Manage LTA social media presence on Facebook
– Participate in Education department staff meetings and retreats, and take on department-related tasks and projects as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
– A Masters degree in art/museum education, fine arts, arts administration, or a related field
– A minimum of 3 years of experience in the field
– Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills
– Supervisory and/or program coordination experience
– Teaching experience
– Knowledge of art history and art education
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office
– Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign

Position Title: Associate Educator, School and Teacher Programs
Position Description: The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Associate Educator, School and Teacher Programs. Specific responsibilities and requirements are listed below.RESPONSIBILITIES:Develops, implements, and reports on all aspects of the School Visit program, including marketing and outreach to schools, maintaining the budget for programs, working closely with Group Services on maintaining an active schedule of visits, maintaining a good relationship with partnership schools, monitoring and tracking all activities, and reporting to Development when requested. In the School Partnership program, this also includes maintaining close contact with school administrators and educators to insure the quality of the programs and increasing visibility of the partnership programs at the Museum and online. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates 11–15 freelance museum educators; provides ongoing training sessions; and conducts class observations throughout the year. Develops new and enhances existing online resources for school programming. Responds to a variety of inquiries from school administrators and teachers regarding all School Visit programs, including making decisions regarding possible partners and responding to related complaints or concerns. Develops relationships with other cultural institutions within New York City with similar teaching staff to exchange information and professional development opportunities for staff. Teaches in the School Visits program and assists with Teacher Programs (drop-in Teacher Workshops and customized professional development workshops) as needed. Works on special projects as assigned by the assistant director of School and Teacher Programs or the director of Community, Access, and School Programs, such as participation in interdepartmental initiatives and the development of interpretive resources to the Museum’s collections. Reports to Assistant Director, School and Teacher Programs.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in art history, education, or related fields preferred. Minimum of five years experience teaching in an art museum with K–12 grade audience required. At least two years experience in a supervisory capacity, including hiring and training of staff. Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs. Excellent writing skills. Ability to lift art supplies, stand in gallery while teaching for up to 75 minutes, and travel to visit schools in the five boroughs with art supplies or promotional materials. Some overtime and weekend hours required.
