The Ivan Galantic Prize Winner: Mikayla Barreiro

Mikayla Barreiro (A21) has a verve for learning and a rare capacity and drive that spring from the enjoyment that she gets from discovery. A double major in Classical Studies and History, Mikayla follows her intellectual curiosity as a Laidlaw Fellow. Her nominator, Professor David Ekbladh, has been impressed by Mikayla’s ability to synthesize historical material, her fluid articulation in classroom discussions and in writing, and how quickly she found her own voice on difficult and charged historical issues: “She was unafraid to challenge established historians on a range of topics (including her professor).”

The Ivan Galantic Special Achievement in Humanities Prize is awarded to students who reach for wisdom, not simply knowledge.
