Hyun Ji Rim, Postdoctoral Scholar

Hyun Ji Rim is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP), The Fletcher School, Tufts University. Dr. Rim is also a Non-Resident Fellow at Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies in Washington, DC, and a Senior Editor at the Consortium of Indo-Pacific Researchers. She received her PhD from School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University. Her dissertation, “Deterring Allies: Curbing the Emergence of Nuclear Outlaws in East Asia” examined the history of US alliances in East Asia and US deterrence through nonproliferation policy under the supervision of Professor Kent E. Calder and Professor Thomas G. Mahnken. She works extensively on strategic competition, Indo-Pacific strategy, US alliance politics, East Asian security dynamics, and US foreign policy. Her work appears in the Pacific Review, the Journal of Indo-Pacific Affairs, the International Journal of Korean Unification Studies, among other journals.
