Marketing and Communications Manager [Museum of Russian Icons]

The Museum of Russian Icons seeks a Marketing and Communications Manager. This new full-time position will oversee all external communications with the press, media, and the public; design and oversee the production of all print and online media (newsletters, ads, etc.); maintain the website; oversee the branding of the Museum; and write press releases and ad copy.

Qualifications:
Requirements: a B.A. or above in graphic design, communications, marketing or a related field; experience with both print and online graphic design; excellent communication skills with the press and the public; ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines; good interpersonal skills; creative thinker with an innovative yet timeless approach to design; ability to work effectively as part of a small, collaborative staff team.

About this Organization:
The Museum of Russian Icons was founded in 2006 as a non-profit educational institution by Massachusetts industrialist, Gordon B. Lankton. The collection includes more than 400 Russian icons, the largest collection of its kind in North America, and one of the largest private collections outside Russia. The collection spans six centuries, and includes important historical paintings dating from the earliest periods of icon “writing” to the present.

Workshop and Class Instructors [Fuller Craft Museum]

Fuller Craft Museum is seeking instructors to facilitate classes and/or workshops in one or more of the following:

  • Ceramics
  • Jewelry/Small Metals/Silversmithing
  • Enamels
  • Fibers
  • Leathercraft

Classes can run from 4-8 weeks, 2-3hr segments once a week.

Greenhouse Assistant [Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum]

Description:

Position Title: Greenhouse Assistant
Department: Gardens and Grounds
Reports to: Greenhouse Supervisor
Type of Position: Full-time, hourly/non-exempt
Location: Hingham and Boston
Schedule: Will require work on weekends and some holidays

Summary of Position
The Greenhouse Assistant will be responsible for greenhouse, gardening, and grounds-keeping activities as directed by the Greenhouse Supervisor.

Responsibilities
• General maintenance of Museum’s living collection including trimming, potting, fertilizing and watering
• Transporting plants in and out of Museum greenhouse and courtyard
• Transporting plants to and from greenhouses in Hingham and Boston
• Courtyard maintenance
• General research on new cultural methods and horticultural techniques
• Upkeep and maintenance of the greenhouses and greenhouse work areas
• Application of organic pesticides and fertilizers
• Responsible for recording greenhouse activities and IPM records
• May be called upon to assist with educational groups and/or tours
• Other duties as directed by the Greenhouse Supervisor and Chief Horticulturist

This  position requires work at our museum in Boston, along with traveling to our off-site greenhouses in Hingham. It is required that all greenhouse employees have access to reliable personal transportation to be able to fulfill this travel requirement.

Qualifications:

• 1-2 years experience performing greenhouse/gardening tasks
• Familiarity with greenhouse operations and use of organic pesticides
• Able to work independently and take initiative
• Ability to use judgment in interpreting and following written and verbal instructions on assigned jobs
• Physically able to assist one other person in moving plants and supplies up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to handle physical requirements that include moving hoses, standing for long periods, and working in hot conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record; comfortable driving large van

Visitor Services Associate – seasonal, part-time, temporary [The Mary Baker Eddy Library]

Handles visitor access and hospitality at The Mary Baker Eddy Library’s facility in Boston during times of peak attendance, especially weekends. Serves as initial public access point for the Library’s research room and offices. This position primarily handles monetary transactions, and engages with the public in both structured and unstructured settings.

Admissions: Sells tickets, provides visitor orientation and individual assistance for the exhibits, gives directions, handles bag check, administers lost and found, receives visitor feedback.

Mapparium Tours: Leads tours of the Mapparium. Answers visitor questions and enforces Library policies in exhibit spaces.

Develops and maintains an in-depth knowledge of the Library’s exhibits, themes, services, and subject areas, including ideas, life, and achievements of Mary Baker Eddy. Answers questions and serves as a proactive resource to the visiting public. Also provides coaching and support to volunteers helping with the visitor services activity.

Constantly monitors the visitor experience to meet visitor needs and requests, provide direction, and provide an enjoyable and thoughtful visitor experience. Resolves visitor issues quickly and effectively, ensuring visitor security and safety. Takes particular care of visitors with special needs (handicapped access, etc.). Helps maintain clean and organized public spaces and alerts others to equipment malfunctions.

Performs other duties as assigned. For example, assists with guided tours and educational activities as requested.

 

 

Qualifications:

Customer service, retail, or similar experience dealing in person with the public, preferably tourists. Ability to handle monetary transactions with ease and accuracy, including handling and counting cash. Should have basic math skills, computer knowledge, and the ability to learn quickly, preferably with a background or strong interest in history and public education. Flexible with strong attention to details and math. Takes initiative and works well with the public. Good oral and face-to-face communication skills. Committed to a world-class level of customer service and providing the best possible visitor experience.

SCHEDULE:

June – September, up to 20 hours per week. Schedule flexible, but must work weekends.

Volunteer Docent (gallery educator) [Danforth Art]

Danforth Art Docents are dedicated volunteers who lead tours for Danforth Art visitors. Guided tours are interactive and docents help visitors make meaning of the artwork on view by facilitating discussions that encourage careful looking, critical thinking, and personal connections. By making the museum a comfortable and engaging environment for visitors young and old, Danforth Art Docents provide an invaluable service to Danforth Art and its community.

Qualifications:
Accepted applicants are required to attend a New Docent Training Program beginning in the fall and meeting weekly on Wednesday afternoons through the spring.  Maintaining an active Danforth Art Membership is required of all Danforth Art Docents.  New Docents are asked to make at least a 2 year commitment to the program upon graduating the New Docent Training Program.  After graduation, Danforth Art Docents are expected to attend monthly training sessions and lead at least 10 tours annually.
