Description:
The Worcester Art Museum has an exciting, part-time opening for support staff to complete set-up and dismantling of tasks along with other event operation needs. Support staff will stock bar supplies, monitor event area, and ensure restrooms are clean for guest comfort and safety. This position follows direction of event staff to dismantle and clean area at the conclusion of the event.

Qualifications:
Support staff must safely lift at least 50 pounds and negotiate stairs, work within a secure environment, engage positively with diverse groups of people in a public setting, and react to changing needs and demands in a positive way.Following directions is a must.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.High school diploma or G.E.D. and previous event experience preferred.Position requires frequent lifting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.Candidates must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods of time, and availability to work a flexible schedule (afternoon/evening/weekend hours).Work schedule is based on events, so hours vary.Position is ideal for candidates seeking extra income. *On-call position; general schedule 7am-3pm

Summary

The Facilities Engineer oversees the day-to-day efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all Museum building systems, including HVAC, fire alarm, electrical, lighting, plumbing, energy management, security and life safety systems. The position will also be the primary point of contact for systems issues that arise in off-hours that cannot be resolved by the Overnight Security and Facilities Officer on duty.

Responsibilities

? Install, maintain and repair a variety of equipment such as compressors, heat pumps, fan coil units, fan units, pumps, cooling towers, chillers and related piping

? Operate and maintain control systems associated with HVAC and refrigeration equipment

? Work from piping diagrams, schematics, blueprints and sketches to plan, lay out and troubleshoot complex HVAC system

? Install, maintain and repair of security system

? Collaborate with Security department to optimize all security electronic systems. Assess systems requirements and recommend improvements as necessary

? Work with program exhibition staff on lighting and other needs

? Optimize plant operations for energy savings

? Manage service contracts (mechanical, electrical, elevator, fire alarm, etc)

? Schedule service from outside vendors when repair and maintenance cannot be completed in-house

Qualifications:
Requirements

? Must be a high school or trade school graduate and additional courses in refrigeration and air conditioning installation and repair, and/or prior work experience in systems/mechanics

? Controls experience, preferably in Andover Controls or Software House/C-Cure

? Experience in brazing and soldering

? Must possess a valid Massachusetts State Refrigeration License with at least four years applicable experience

? Must possess a valid EPA issued Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate (Universal type)

? Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, lifts and in pits

? Ability to work in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and time deadlines

? Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a collaborative environment. Flexible and problem solving attitude with a customer service orientation.

? Ability to manually lift/push/pull up to 60 pounds

? Ability to operate man-lifts

? On call 24/7

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Museum of Science is actively searching for an experienced and enthusiastic, upbeat front-line Visitor Services Specialist who thrives in a highly trafficked public environment. Cash handling skills required. Exemplary customer service and communication skills a must! Ability to work independently and efficiently as needed. Flexibility and multitasking skills highly desirable. This is a uniformed position that requires working during scheduled holiday periods and school vacation weeks due to increased attendance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 20,000 – 50,000 guests per week depending on the season.
  • Up to 15,000 guests per day during school vacation week / holiday periods or special exhibitions.
  • 1,000 – 3,000 school children per day during the school year.
  • Up to 500 transactions per cashier, per day.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is full-time, 36.50 hours a week, with the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, 8:45am – 5:15pm
  • Wednesday, 8:45am – 5:15pm
  • Thursday, 8:45am – 1:45pm
  • Friday, 8:45am – 4:45pm

The Accounting Associate reports to the Director of Finance & Administration and works closely with the Bookkeeper, the Development Associate and interacts with members of all departments throughout the Museum. The Accounting Associate is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of cash receipts and for the reconciliation of bank statements and general ledger accounts. The Accounting Associate produces monthly financial statements and assists in a variety of functions for the Finance & Administration department.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and posting of monthly general ledger entries and account reconciliations. This includes assistance with the month end closings, the annual year-end audit and other reporting to local, state and federal government agencies and other accounting processes.
  • Responsible, with the Bookkeeper, for the accurate and timely processing of cash receipts including the preparation of bank deposits and verification of cash totals. This requires detailed documentation of all funds received and processing the donation box receipts.
  • Responsible for providing monthly financial statements.
  • Responsible for administrative and personnel support within the department.
  • Responsible for learning all modules of the accounting program and providing backup to the Bookkeeper position.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The Accounting Associate must:

  • have a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration or a related field with at some coursework in Accounting.
  • have 1-2 years experience in accounting or office administration.
  • have excellent computer skills with proficiency in Accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • have significant attention to detail, a high level of accuracy and the capability to prioritize various functions.

Director of Retail [USS Constitution Museum, Boston, MA]

Description:
The Director of Retail Operations is responsible for all aspects of the museum’s retail undertakings including the Museum Store and on-line retail efforts. The Director is responsible for all planning, coordinating, staffing, budgeting, and activities of the Museum’s retail enterprises. The Museum Store is open seven days a week attracting a high volume of tourists and families. The Director sets high standards for customer service and creates a welcoming retail environment that reflects the museum experience. For many customers, the store may be their only experience of the USS Constitution Museum.

Major Specific Responsibilities

  1. Retail Management:Develops and executes the overall strategic plan for museum retail operations. Establishes store layout and design, selects products, manages, merchandising, inventory control, marketing, controls staffing and develops the annual budget. Oversees point of sale system, sets prices, introduces new products and analyzes sales data.
  2. Oversight of Product Lines and Mix:Works with Store Manager to ensure an appealing mix of products that support the Museum’s mission. Meets with potential new vendors and attends trade shows to identify new product opportunities. Consults other departments and staff about upcoming events, exhibits, potential new products. Serves as principal contact with vendors, retail organizations, and relevant trade associations.
  3. Inventory: Maintains adequate inventory levels of the right products at the right price. Controls and manages $150,000-200,000 (Cost) inventory. Evaluates specific department and product performance, manages the ordering process, and oversees receiving, labeling, and stocking. Directs physical counts annually and as needed. Identifies and resolves issues of slow turning or unsaleable merchandise.
  4. Merchandising:Manages store layout to create easy access and a pleasant atmosphere for visitors. Changes displays to reflect season, changes in exhibits, special events, and strategic direction. Ensures displays and fixtures are attractive and in good repair. Monitors cost of goods sold by product. Maintains and enhances margins using both alert pricing and best supply chain management practices..
  5. Personnel: Recruits, hires, and trains all staff. Establishes a training program for employees on customer relations, store operating procedures, and Museum policies and Constitution’s history. Provides direction to store managers and supervisors. Writes annual appraisals for Store Manager and Assistant Manager. Establishes and maintains a culture of excellence by personal example and continuous development of subordinates.
  6. Internet Retail Operations: Develops and executes the strategic plan for Museum’s on-line retail program. Determines the look and size of the website. Adds new products as needed and reviews periodically for content. Formulates merchandising plan for email advertising. Integrates social networks such as Facebook and Instagram into the retail media mix.
  7. Budgetary Responsibility: Approves department expenditures against budget. Prepares annual and monthly budgets. Submits bi-weekly payroll. Analyzes department performance. Designs, generate, review, and analyze sales and financial reports to assess performance by product. Takes profit improvement actions as appropriate. Controls cash in conformance to the policies established by the Director of Finance and Administration. Works closely with Director of Finance & Administration to develop reports for Finance Committee and auditors, including without limitation, sales, cost of goods sold, UBIT, internet store sales, inventory, etc.
  8. Product Development: Explores and develops creative new products related to the ship and the Museum’s collection.
  9. Administration: Member of senior management team. Interacts with other departments to ensure retail operations reflects Museum-wide efforts. Attends staff meetings, and interacts with Finance Committee and trustees.
Qualifications:
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in retail management

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics

  • Pleasant, open and gracious communication style. Easy to be with and likeable as a person. Good sense of humor. Ego in check. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to direct and supervise staff of approximately 10+ persons. Develops subordinates by coaching rather than critiquing.
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of cash flow, retail analysis skills, budgets, profit and loss statements, internet retailing and the use of social networks to enhance retail on-line and in- store performance
  • Knowledge of merchandising and display concepts and POS systems
  • Desire and energy to work in a 7-day a week, high volume, family-friendly museum.
