Job Summary:
The Frederick Gunn School is seeking a full-time English teacher passionate about literature
and who enjoys working with high school students. Applicants should embrace the values of
a boarding school, bring energy to the classroom, and possess a strong interest in teaching
close reading, composition, and analytical thinking. In addition, this role entails
responsibilities as a coach, house parent, and student advisor.
Key Responsibilities:
● Teach four English courses, covering diverse literary texts (fiction and non-fiction) and
providing instruction in expository, critical, and creative writing.
● Employ varied pedagogical approaches to accommodate student-focused
classrooms.
● Implement the school’s educational philosophy and English department goals.
● Create a conducive classroom environment suited to students’ maturity and interests.
● Prepare course materials (syllabi, quizzes, assignments, rubrics).
● Use HighlanderNation (learning management system) to post course material and
track grades.
● Offer extra help and review sessions to support students’ academic and personal
growth.
● Regularly assess student progress and provide written reports.
● Eager to work collaboratively with colleagues within and outside the English
department.

Job Details
The position is available for the 25/26 school year, possibly opening as early as
the spring of 2025. Offer of employment will be contingent upon a successful
background check.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates are expected to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English; teaching experience is preferred.
