MGIMO Students Participate in the International Symposium at Tufts University

On February 21–27, a session of the annual symposium organized by the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University was held in Boston, MA. For the fourth time, the student team from MGIMO University participated in the conference, the topic of which was “Order and Chaos: Diplomacy and Strength in a Changing World.”

MGIMO University was represented at the conference by Yegor Dementyev, Dmitry Borisov, Margarita Komissarova, Ekaterina Shebalina and Dmitry Shebalin. The event was attended by student delegations from Russia, Brazil, Israel, Ireland, China, Singapore, South Korea, as well as the U.S., particularly from the Naval Academy, West Point Military Academy, Wellesley College, and Tufts University.

The conference was a great platform not only for intercultural dialogue between young people from different countries, but also for discussing key and sensitive issues of world politics. Each of the students made a presentation in which they offered their answer to the question: “Is the end of the liberal world order really coming to an end?” The delegation of MGIMO presented the Russian perspective.

These speeches marked the beginning of an exciting discussion, during which MGIMO students had the opportunity to share opinions and argue with international experts, researchers, diplomats, military personnel, and representatives of international organizations. Participants were not afraid to touch on complex topics such as relations between the U.S. and Russia, the transformation of the modern world order, issues of cyber security, climate change, the future of the global economy, and the role of diplomacy as an international political institution.

Within the framework of the symposium, the students met with the leadership of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, with which MGIMO University has been implementing a large-scale research and education project on Russia-U.S. relations and global stability prospects since 2016.

The trip was made possible thanks to financial support from the Art, Science and Sport Foundation.
