The Governance Effects of China on Central Asia

China’s growing role in Central Asia is often understood through rising debt burdens, trade, investment and security ties. But China’s role in the region is much more complex and is transforming local institutions. This panel will explore how Chinese businesses and government are influencing the region’s judicial system, bureaucracy and social relations to secure their interests. In this event, Chris Miller, Director of FPRI’s Eurasia Program, and Edward Lemon, President of the Oxus Society for Central Asian Affairs will moderate a conversation with two experts, Gul Berna Ozcan and Niva Yau.
