Denis Chuzhoy: Laughter in Exile: Navigating Free Speech and Comedy amid the Russia-Ukraine War

On October 8, 2024, the Fletcher Eurasia Club and the Tufts Russian Program held a lunch seminar with Russian comic Denis Chuzhoy, also known as Dan The Stranger. Denis discussed how the Russia-Ukraine war has impacted free speech, civil society, and culture in Russia, particularly the Russian comedy scene. He also talked about his experience as a Russian émigré over the last three years and the differences between Russian and English language jokes and audiences.
