Azerbaijan’s Ongoing Blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh: A Conversation with Artak Beglaryan, Advisor to the State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh
February 16, 2023 @ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
Please join the Fletcher Armenia Club for a conversation and Q&A with Artak Beglaryan, Advisor to the State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, on the motives behind Azerbaijan’s ongoing blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh (known as ‘Artsakh’ in Armenian), including the geopolitical, humanitarian and human rights implications of the blockade. The discussion will be moderated by Armenia Club Co-Leader, Edita Danielyan (MALD ’23).
In early December 2022, Azerbaijan instituted a blockade of the Lachin Corridor, which is the only road via Armenia connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to the outside world. With the region’s lifeline being cut off, severe shortages of food, medical supplies and goods have occurred, putting Nagorno-Karabakh’s Armenian population, numbering roughly 120,000, at risk of famine and a humanitarian catastrophe. Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh have been unsuccessful in restoring freedom of movement through the corridor, while the regime in Baku continues to deny the existence of a blockade.
