Zach Witlin is a senior political risk analyst at Eurasia Group, where he advises investors and multinationals on the politics, geopolitics, and political economy of the Eurasia region. Zach helps clients navigate the repercussions of and outlook for a region transformed by the Russia-Ukraine war, including on sanctions, regional conflicts, and reform and leadership plans. He leads Eurasia Group’s coverage of the politics of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, as well as technology policy issues in Russia.
Zach has over a decade of experience as an adviser and subject matter expert. Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Zach worked with American agricultural giant Cargill in Moscow, and researched political economy in Ukraine as a Fulbright Fellow. Zach holds a master’s degree in Russian, East European, and Eurasian studies from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and political science from Tufts University. He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and part of the advisory council of Eurasia Foundation’s Young Professionals Network.
