The transatlantic partnership in an election year: structural and situational challenges

September 17 @ 5:30 pm 7:00 pm

As both sides of the Atlantic navigate a landscape marked by geopolitical uncertainty, the foundational structures of the transatlantic alliance are being tested by challenges arising from an intense election year in both the European Union and the United States. On the eve of critical elections that will shape American democracy and rule of law, but also transatlantic security, the partnership faces multifaceted challenges across political, economic, and security dimensions.

To open the discussion of these crucial issues, the Chair of Transatlantic Trade and Economy (College of Europe, in cooperation with Microsoft) is pleased to announce its first event of the academic year 2024-2025, “The Transatlantic Partnership in an Election Year. Structural and Situational Challenges,” scheduled on 17 September, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm (followed by a reception).

Join us for an engaging conversation featuring:

  • Dr. Benedetta Berti: Director of Policy Planning in the Office of the Secretary General at NATO
  • Dr. Ilke Toygür: Director of the Global Policy Center and Professor of Geopolitics of Europe at the IE University & Mercator Fellow
  • Prof. Joel Trachtman: Professor of International Law at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and holder of the Henry J. Braker Professorship of Commercial Law.

Dr. Ian Lesser, Chair of Transatlantic Trade and Economy, will moderate this discussion.

The event will take place on the Dijver campus of the College of Europe, in room E, and will consist of a conversation followed by a Q&A session and a reception. Remote attendance will also be possible.

If you wish to join us for this event, please kindly register here before Sunday, 15 September. Registration is required for both in-person and online attendance.
