Vitaly Kozyrev: Cold War 2.0 and the Prospect of a Russia-China Condominium in Eurasia

February 6 @ 12:00 pm 1:30 pm

Please join the Fletcher Eurasia Club for a conversation with Vitaly Kozyrev, a Distinguished Professor of Political Science and International Studies at Endicott College. As Western leaders try to develop new approaches to the recent disturbing geopolitical rivalries, fundamental shifts have occurred in the strategies of Russia and China in Eurasia. The prospect of a looming new cold war prompts the leaders in Moscow and Beijing to challenge the Euro-Atlantic security and economic order, replacing it with new regional economic initiatives along with a new exclusive indivisible security system in Eurasia.

Kozyrev will examine the key components of the rapidly growing East-West bipolarity, which include the formation of the China-Russia-North Korea-Iran axis, the significance of the “inverted” security paradigm, the initiation of new geo-economic sub-regional logistic corridors and production clusters, and the promotion of new ambitious, far-reaching engagement strategies in the Global South. Before attending the event, we encourage you to read Kozyrev’s piece on the significance of a strategic Russia-North Korea pact and articles on the emerging Axis of Resistance and what it could mean for the West to “lose” Russia.

The Eurasia Club lunch seminar series engages with students, faculty, staff, and researchers to foster a better understanding of the region among members of the Fletcher and wider Tufts communities. Please register via the following Microsoft Form to attend the event in person or let us know if you would like to attend virtually. Please contact us with any questions you might have about the event or if you would like to submit discussion questions for the speaker in advance. Lunch will be served following the conversation. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
