We are pleased to announce the creation of two research guides that highlight some of our archival materials. Funded by an Express Library Digitization Award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine New England Region, they contain images and links to full-text articles from the library’s collection of materials regarding Tufts’ role in the community-health- center movement and the Jewish physicians who joined the Tufts faculty as a result of the “German Brain Drain” in World War II. We encourage you to visit these guides and experience the rich history of Tufts University School of Medicine!
Boston to Mound Bayou: Columbia Point & Delta Health Center
With its establishment of the Columbia Point Health Center (Boston, MA) and Delta Health Center, Inc. (Mound Bayou, MS), Tufts helped launch the community-health-center movement. This guide features background information about the community-health-center movement as well as materials related to the pioneering work of TUSM faculty members H. Jack Geiger and Count Gibson.

TUSM students in the Competency-Based Apprenticeship in Primary Care program recently put a suite of selected apps and mobilized websites into a folder on their smartphones.
Course directors Wayne Altman, MD, and Sarah Rosenberg-Scott, MD, introduced Mobile Medicards and discussed the usefulness of their top five tools for information at the point of care. Librarian Berika Williams created a presentation on how to install apps for DynaMed, STAT!Ref, Epocrates, the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research’s Electronic Preventive Services Selector, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine’s SHOTs.
Our CAP Apps & Links Guide gives instructions on how to access these resources and various calculators, drug resources, evidence-based compendia, and textbooks. We trust that these resources will enable our students to share their research with their preceptors and seem brighter than ever. Psychiatry Online is a new resource here at HHSL that offers electronic access to many publications from the American Psychiatry Association, which includes both eBooks and journals. One of the highlights from this resource is the DSM-5—the newest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Also available are the two companion books to the DSM-5: Handbook of Differential Diagnosis and Clinical Cases.

The Hirsh Library will soon be subscribing to Natural Standard – the leading evidence-based resource on alternative and complementary medicine.

The Hirsh Health Sciences Library now subscribes to Lexicomp Online with AHFS (The American Hospital Formulary Service). Lexicomp Online is an excellent resource for drug doses, mechanisms of action, drug interactions and adverse effects. Facts & Comparisons, Trissel’s IV-Check, Comparative Drug Tables, and Drug Comparison Reviews are all accessible within the database.
JAMAevidence is an online resource for learning, teaching, and applying evidence-based medicine.
