Middle School Teaching Visual Artist 3D Sculptural, Digital and Graphic Design (Washington, DC)

The Lab School of Washington is an independent school for students with learning differences that is known for its highly respected arts-integrated curriculum. This is a rare opportunity to bring a new dynamic, talented Visual Arts Teacher to our team for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a full-time position.

Teaching Visual Artists are responsible for:

  • creating and delivering an innovative art curriculum for students in grades 5-8.
  • using an inventive, choice-based approach so students take ownership of their creative process and are encouraged to express and explore their identities, beliefs and ideas.
  • enabling students to understand and develop an appreciation of the process as well as the ability to make informed judgments in the creation of their own work.
  • walking students through the design process.
  • collaborating with other faculty members, with an eye towards integrating arts into all curricular areas.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art or equivalent education, with Master’s degree in Art Education preferred.
  • Able to teach a variety of art processes:
  • 3-D Sculptural Focus: well-versed in 3-Dimensional art (preferably ceramics, multi-media sculpture, and woodworking) and comfortable teaching an array of 2-Dimensional art processes
  • Design and Graphic Design Focus: well-versed in digital art, photography, graphic design, as well as other various 2D and 3D tools and skills
  • Interest in working with students with learning differences.

Salary range – $55,000-$100,000
