Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs psychological assessments and presents in an oral and written format
  • Provides individual and group therapy to designated special needs students
  • Provides crisis intervention
  • Screens referrals in conjunction with other designated school personnel
  • Participates in the prereferral process as needed
  • Consults on a regular basis with classroom teachers regarding special needs students
  • Performs other duties assigned by the District Principal or the Director of Special Education

Qualifications Required:

  1. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education licensure as a School Psychologist
  2. Experience working with a diverse population
  3. Licensed as a Psychologist in Massachusetts
  4. M.Ed. school psychology
  5. Knowledge of: integration and inclusive models of instruction; differentiated instruction and response to intervention; curriculum modifications, behavior management strategies, and learning styles
  6. Ability to: perform and interpret psychological evaluations, including projectives; provide individual and small group therapy to the school-age students; work closely and harmoniously with parents, teachers, and administrators
  7. Knowledge of special education programs and regulations
  8. Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Experience working in a school setting

Terms:

All teachers are members of the Chelsea Teachers Union (CTU). The length of the school day is 6.5 hours, but subject to longer hours for schools with extended day. The number of school days are 185 days.

Flexible contract work for School Psychologists (Boston Area)

We have the need for one to two school psychologists to complete contract work for a metro area school district performing IEP evaluations. We are a small neuropsychology practice in the Boston Metro area. The position will be flexible, although it is likely that there will be sufficient work to keep them full-time in the near-to-medium future, potentially long-term.

Compensation: approximately $125/hr. 

The position would also be a great fit for somebody who has their own practice and wants additional work to supplement.

What is the School Psychologist role?
 
As a School Psychologist you care deeply about the success of your students and create strong relationships to leverage success both in and out of the classroom. You understand the unique demands of working with students with significant emotional or behavioral needs and are excited to help scholars maximize their functioning in school and reach their fullest potential. You act as case-manager and liaison for these students, evaluate their strengths and challenges, and create and monitor individualized plans to support their ongoing success.
 
You will work at both of our campuses (Queen St. and Centre St.) supporting scholars with IEPs or 504 plans. The hours are Monday – Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 4 p.m. Someone coming to us with two years of previous experience and a master’s degree can expect to make $63,222.

District-wide school psychologist (Lexington)

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administer I.Q. tests, achievement tests, and other tests required to determine eligibility for special services.
  2. Provide written reports of assessment for student evaluations.
  3. Collaborate with building and support staff throughout the district to meet the needs of students.
  4. Make recommendations to the Director of Special Services concerning the need to obtain additional medical, psychological and/or psychiatric information on an evaluation.
  5. Participate as an IEP team member with functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans and /or in the manifestation determination process.
  6. Collaborate with outside agencies, parents and teachers to meet the need of students.
  7. Review student records for the screening and evaluation process of students.
  8. Provide group and individual lessons on social skills development.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Be a member of the building level diagnostic team on assessments of all students who are suspected to have disabilities.  This could include gathering historical data on the student, administering IQ tests, administering projective testing, observations, clinical interviews, and adaptive assessments.
  2. Be a member of the screening team or S.O.A.R. Team in a building when requested.
  3. Plan and implement in-service sessions on behavioral strategies and interventions.
  4. Plan and implement staff development with district and building staff on new and revised testing instruments. 
  5. Research new intervention strategies and new assessments in the areas of instructional strategies, behavior management, behavioral intervention plans and emotional disabilities.
  6. Conduct home visits as needed.
  7. Other duties as assigned by the administration.

QUALIFICATIONS:                          

  • Complete a NASP-approved program. (Natl Assoc of School Psychologists).  This program provides training in the psychological and academic assessment of children, behavioral and academic interventions, in addition to consultation with teachers and parents.
  • Appropriate state teacher certification as a school psychologist.
  • MA DESE license as a School Psychologist
  • Experience in the public school setting preferred.

Seeking full-time school psychologist supervisor!

We are seeking to hire an experienced school psychologist to supervise a diverse group of 24 school psychology graduate students over the next 5 years. This position is funded through a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education titled, “Expanding Culturally Responsive Mental Health Services in Madison Metropolitan School District.” The grant was awarded to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to work in partnership with the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) to prepare a new generation of school psychologists from diverse backgrounds who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver culturally responsive mental health services to children and youth in Madison schools.

The grant funds a five-year, 192-day teacher contract position for a School Psychologist Practicum and Internship Supervisor. Additional summer work may be needed and will be compensated accordingly. The Supervisor will work closely with the grant team to successfully implement the grant. The grant team is composed of UW-Madison School Psychology faculty (Katie Eklund, Steve Kilgus, Andy Garbacz, and Kristy Kelly) and MMSD Department of Student & Staff Support staff (Kristen Guetschow and Melanie Salgado). School Psychologists will provide direct and indirect social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health services for children and youth, as well as work with families, school administrators, educators, and other professionals to create supportive learning and social environments for all students.
