A Conversation with Leonid Volkov

Leonid Volkov, born 1980 in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), holds an M.Sc. in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Ural State University. He served as an independent member of the Yekaterinburg City Council from 2009 to 2013, as Campaign Manager and Chief of Staff for Alexei Navalny, the leader of Russian opposition during his campaign for Mayor of Moscow in 2013 and for the President of Russia from 2016 and 2018. In 2016, he founded the Internet Protection Society, a non-profit organization that promotes Internet freedom in Russia using both political and technological tools.
