Rising Power Coalitions: Reimagining Global Governance?

December 1, 2022 @ 1:30 pm December 2, 2022 @ 12:30 pm

Through the formation and strengthening of partnerships such as BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa), rising powers have increasingly exerted influence in global governance. Following the war in Ukraine and the subsequent deepening of the geopolitical divide between the United States and its allies and rising powers, it has become common to discuss the evolving “bloc politics” and the “New Cold War.” This conference examines how rising powers understand and utilize their strategic relationships, what drives their convergence, and how their collective statecraft impacts the United States and the international order. How should the U.S. government respond to the deepening strategic partnership among rising powers? Is a reset of major power relations feasible? Is this crisis an opportunity to reimagine global governance?
