Fletcher and Harvard Representatives Meet with the Leadership of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO University

On March 18, 2019, a meeting among the leadership of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO University and representatives of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, as well as Harvard University, was held at the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO.

On behalf of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy, Director of International Energy Policy and Diplomacy Institute Professor Valery Salygin, Deputy Director Igbal Guliyev, and Senior Analysts of the Center for Strategic Studies in Energy and the Digital Economy Yulia Solovova and Alisa Khubaeva participated in the meeting.

The American side was represented by the Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Arctic Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School Halla Hrund Logadóttir and Professor and Senior Research Fellow at The Fletcher School Barbara Kates-Garnick.

During the meeting, discussions were held on training programs for international cooperation on the development of Arctic resources, as well as issues of possible interaction in the field of research on actual problems of the development of the Arctic.

The head of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO University Valery Salygin noted that today the Arctic can be called a model of international cooperation, drawing attention to the crucial importance of international research on the problems of effective development of the Arctic.

The American side has shown great interest in the scientific work carried out by the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO University and the Center for Strategic Studies in Energy and the Digital Economy on Arctic issues. Special attention was paid to the discussion of issues of ecology, climate change, ecosystem change, as well as international legal problems of the development of Arctic resources.

The participants of the meeting agreed on the possibility to continue the discussion of potential forms of cooperation at the V International Arctic Forum “The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” that will take place on April 9-10 in Saint Petersburg.
