Fletcher-HSE Roundtable Discussion: World Trade and Economic Sanctions

On March 19, 2019,  a roundtable discussion involving the professors from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University was held at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. The event was dedicated to the topics of international trade and economic sanctions.

Professor Daniel Drezner and Professor Chris Miller of The Fletcher School, Professor of the Department of International Relations and Deputy Dean for Research Anastasia Likhacheva, Manager and Visiting Scholar of the Department of World Economy Ovanes Agopov, as well as postgraduate and graduate students of the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs participated in the discussion.

 

 

The problems of distinguishing between economic sanctions and “trade wars,” the issues of defining goals and criteria for the effectiveness of sanctions, the impact of technological progress on the transformation of international trade, as well as the current state of international affairs on the example of relations between Russia, Europe, the United States, and China were discussed within the framework of the roundtable.

This discussion was organized within the framework of the close cooperation between the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the HSE and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
