Fletcher Mediation Training & Practicum

Gain experience as a mediator!

The Fletcher Mediation Practicum allows you to gain useful conflict resolution skills AND apply them by mediating actual cases. The International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Program (INCR) has partnered with MWI since 2000 to offer students a practical foundation in conflict resolution through training and first-hand experience in Massachusetts Courts. You do not need any legal background to mediate – it is about third-party facilitation, not the application of law.

This virtual online training is a comprehensive skill-building program designed to prepare participants to become effective mediators (a marketable skill for many professions). MWI trainers provide interactive lectures, demonstrations, and coaching through simulations to offer step-by-step knowledge of the mediation process live and online via Zoom. Participants also learn how to handle difficult behaviors, ethical dilemmas, and mediator biases, all while improving their personal communication skills.

Adapting to the realities of the pandemic, MWI has transitioned its trainings entirely to Zoom, providing Fletcher students with a very accessible opportunity this year!

Training (full attendance via Zoom required to earn certificate):

September 26 & 27, 2020            Saturday – Sunday                  8:00 am – 5:00 pm each day

October 3 & 4, 2020                      Saturday – Sunday                  9:00 am – 6:00 pm each day

Practicum After you receive the above training, you will be observing and co-mediating court online via Zoom (scheduled throughout the year). Once you observe twice and co-mediate twice, then you will receive a Certificate of Completion for the Practicum and can continue mediating with MWI, if eligible.

Registration (your spot is not reserved until you fulfill BOTH steps):

2. Mail a check to Roxanne Collins in the amount of $275 made out to ‘Trustees of Tufts College’). The fee includes the 32-hour training + court experience. Please mail the check to Roxanne Collins, Cabot 603 at 160 Packard Avenue Medford, MA 02155. 

Deadlines:

• Monday, September 14, 2020 – Registration and Payment Deadline (if you cancel after this date, there is a $50 fee)
• Friday, September 18, 2020 – Cancellation Deadline (no refunds after this date)
