Summer Internship Funding Opportunity for Undergrad Students: Apply to the Forest Foundation to be placed with Groundwork Somerville as a Green Team Leader or Farm Hand!

Our mission at Groundwork Somerville is to cultivate the next generation of environmental activists to grow a greener and more equitable Somerville. Through youth empowerment, urban farming, equitable food access, and community engagement, we sow the seeds of a healthy community. This summer, we are offering 2 opportunities to be placed with Groundwork Somerville through the Forest Foundation Summer Fellowship program: Green Team Leader and Farm Hand!

The Green Team (GT) is Groundwork Somerville’s youth employment and development program, which hires roughly 16 high-school students each summer for an educational work experience in urban agriculture and climate justice. The Green Team Leaders (GTLs) work full time, approximately 35 hours per week for 9-10 weeks with the Director of Youth Programs and Engagement to plan and run the 6-week program. All GT staff participate in training to build a cohesive team, learn urban farming skills, and familiarize themselves with GT procedures and workshops. South Street Farm is an ¼ acre urban farm within walking distance from Union Square in Somerville. Focusing on culturally relevant produce, educational demonstrations, and pollinator gardens, the farm hosts the community while donating up to 2000 lbs of fresh local produce to the Somerville Mobile Market, Project Soup, and our neighborhood community fridge each season. This summer, we are looking for a Farm Hand who is eager to learn the ropes of urban farming and help facilitate some of the programming hosted on the farm. This position works closely with the Director of Urban Agriculture to plant, harvest, and perform routine maintenance on the urban farm and should feel confident lifting up to 50 lbs and working in all weather conditions. Visit our website to learn more, or contact leah@groundworksomerville.org with questions!

Afterschool care for 3 boys in Somerville (Davis/Porter)

We are a family that lives in the teele square area of Somerville.  We are currently looking for reliable afterschool childcare for our 3 boys (ages 6, 6 & 8). 

Details:  The boys would need to be picked up from their school in Porter Square.  They can be walked to our home, local parks or activities. The school and our home are both accessible with public transportation, so driving is not required.

Schedule: Mom works in healthcare and has a variable schedule.  Most needs would be every Monday from 2:30pm-5:45/6pm and sometimes Wednesdays as well from 1pm-5:45/6pm.  On average we would need coverage 1-2 days/week.

Pay:  $25/h with guaranteed 4 hours pay when needed on Mondays and 5 hours guaranteed when needed on Wednesdays.

Good morning! My name is Guido De Bartolomeo, and I am the assistant to Head Coach Jason Sachs of the women’s fencing team at Tufts University.

I’m currently looking for a babysitter for my 2-year-old son (he’s 2 years and 5 months old) for about 20 hours a week, in the afternoons. The schedule would be approximately from 3:30pm to 7:30/8:00pm. We are offering an hourly salary between $15-$25, depending on experience.

Seeking Part-Time Household Help In Central Square (Cambridge)

Our family of two working parents and two toddlers is seeking part-time help with household management in Central Square.  We are offering 10 guaranteed hours over 2-4 days at $30 / hour.  Must be on the books.  We are very flexible on the number of days/timing of shifts—e.g., mornings, afternoons, or a mix of both, whichever you prefer.  We are looking for help with household tasks including:

  • Laundry
  • Meal prep
  • Tidying up (i.e., light cleaning)
  • Running neighborhood errands (grocery shopping, dry cleaning, etc.)

We live a 2-minute walk from the Central Square T stop on the Red Line.  No car is needed, but street parking (using our visitor parking pass) is available.  You must be comfortable with dogs; we have a large dog who you will not need to care for, but who will be home during the day.

Morning Babysitter Needed (Ball Square, Somerville, near Tufts)

Hello!

We’re looking for morning help with our two-year-old in Ball Square, Somerville, near Tufts University. The position is for 2-3 days a week, from 6:45 AM to 8:00 AM, starting now and continuing until late May or June 2025. Mondays are required, with flexibility for 1-2 additional days (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday).

Duties include:

  • Serving a pre-prepared breakfast
  • Playing, reading books, and occasional singing or dancing
  • Managing allergy care (EpiPen) and general supervision

Our son has a history of medical complexity but is stable now, and we’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented and familiar with allergy management.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience with toddlers
  • Up-to-date vaccinations
  • References

We offer guaranteed pay with a two-week cancellation notice for our time off or travel. Pay is $28-32/hour, depending on experience.

Babysitter Needed on Wednesdays (Somerville)

Hello and Happy New Year!

We are looking for a responsible and caring babysitter for our two boys (ages 4 and almost 1) for several hours during the week. We live near Powder House Park in Somerville, very close to Tufts University.

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping get the boys dressed and ready for the day
  • Changing diapers (for the baby)
  • Feeding lunch & snacks
  • Taking them on walks, to the library, and to the playground
  • Ensuring they’re engaged and safe

The ideal candidate is someone with experience caring for babies and toddlers, who enjoys being active, creative, and engaging with young kids. Our older son (almost 4) is very talkative and imaginative, while our younger son (almost 1) is crawling and loves trying new foods.

Schedule:

  • Wednesdays during the day (ideally 4-8 hours)
  • Occasional hours on Mondays or Fridays may also be available

We are flexible on the exact hours, but Wednesday availability is a must!

Hi! I’m a single mom in East Somerville looking for a reliable and caring babysitter/”big sister” type of caregiver for my fourth-grade daughter on Tuesday evenings.

Details:

  • Hours: Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

  • Duties: Pick up from school, walk home (about 6 minutes), help with dinner (already prepared), assist with homework, and hang out.

Snow Shoveling Availability (Dec 20–30, 2024)

Are you around the Tufts area during the holidays and available for some light snow shoveling? We’re looking for someone to be responsible for snow shoveling at a house off Curtis St., very close to Tufts campus, between December 20 and December 30, 2024.

You will receive a $50 stipend just for being available, and $30 per hour for actual snow shoveling if there is snow to clear. The job includes shoveling the sidewalk and stairs.

Home Helper/Occasional Babysitter (Somerville)

We are a busy family of four seeking some help with laundry and basic household tasks, as well as occasional babysitting. None of this is urgent or time sensitive, so you could come by at a time convenient for you each week (for example: coming by 1-2x a week for an hour or two during the day and help with putting in a load of laundry or two, putting laundry away, helping pickup toys and other stuff around the house, meal prep, etc.)
