November 30, 2022 @ 6:00 pm 7:30 pm

Please join the Russia and Eurasia Program at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and the Department of Music at Tufts University for a conversation with the famed rapper and singer Noize MC about music, poetry, and politics in Russia. He will discuss his opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, answer questions from the audience, and perform several songs. The talk will be moderated by visiting scholar Oleg Shakirov.

The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served in the Hall of Flags before the doors open. Please make sure to register via Eventbrite to take part in the event in person. Tickets to the event are free of charge but nontransferable. You will only be allowed to enter the venue if your name is on your ticket, and photo identification will be checked at the doors.

Ivan Alekseev, better known by his stage name Noize MC, is a Russian hip-hop and rock artist renowned for his sarcastic lyrics, experimental sound, and freestyler talent. His two-decade-long music career started with improvised street performances in downtown Moscow and online battles and progressed to becoming a national act with a loyal fanbase in Russia and far beyond. A consistent and sincere musician, he has also long been an outspoken public figure despite threats of prosecution and show cancelations. In Spring 2022, after denouncing Russia’s war against Ukraine, with fellow artist Monetochka, he launched the Voices of Peace tour that raised €340,000 for Ukrainian refugees. He was recently declared a “foreign agent” by the Russian authorities for his criticism of the war.
