Damiana Kryygi: A Story of Defiance

Damiana Kryygi was an indigenous child kidnapped from the Ybuturuzy Mountain Range Forest in Paraguay and subjected to inhumane and objectifying study in the name of “scientific” racism in the early 20th century.

For her course finale project for P214: Gender Theory and Praxis, MALD ’22 Alba Loureiro created a literature review, report, and story map depicting the events of Kryygi’s life, noting the ways in which her story has become a symbol of resistance and defiance rebelling against the objectification, hyper-sexualization, silencing, and erasure that she endured.
